In March we ordered this car, just as the plant shut down for the virus. It was promptly built when JNAP reopened, then sat for a month before it got on the train, and took almost another month to arrive here. Strange times we are in.
It's a Limited trim level, so sorta mid-pack as Jeep trims go, and it has the Pentastar 3.6 and ZF 8 speed. We had to make a trip to PHX today(something I avoid as much as possible), so I finally got to drive it for long enough to get a feel for it. It rides nice for an SUV, firm enough to handle well without wallowing, but not harsh at all. Quite surprisingly, I think my '19 dually has less road noise. Seats are comfortable. Brakes have a nice high pedal, and much better initial bite than my pickup, which has brakes that feel more "wooden", unless you really stand on them.
The engine is spunky, but you have to put the spurs to it to really get anywhere, and that is to be expected. It's not a Hemi. I have noticed some mild torque converter shudder at low speeds. There is also a bit of surge at low, parking lot speeds. These may subside as we get some miles on it. One thing I do find quite annoying is the cruise control definitely needs some "smoothing" in the algorithm. I can feel it constantly on and off the throttle. VERY annoying. The other oddity with the cruise control is when you use the Set+(Accel), or Set-(Decel), if you click them it gains or loses 1 mph at a time, as expected, but when you hold them, rather than the new set speed being established when you let go, you have to look at the set speed on the dash, as it starts jumping by five or more mph increments, and you can end up way overshooting your desired change. On Edit: I very seldom used the Accel or Decel, except in 1 mph increments, but tried it out anyway.
The A/C seems more effective than my pickup. One thing it doesn't have that I have surprisingly grown to like is the ventilated seats. It has heated seats, which we need here like a hole in the head, but no ventilation.
We are still fiddling with settings. One thing I miss on the EVIC is there is no gauge summary. The other oddity, is there is a setting to display the current gear in the EVIC, and this is something I really wish my pickup had, BUT even though I have it selected, the number is grayed out in the display, and I can't read it with my sunglasses on. If it were white, like the other parameters displayed, it would actually be useful.
Bottom line: The BOSS likes it, so all is well!
