I live in Phoenix, AZ. and have found that white seems to be the most forgiving color here in the desert. Never seems to get too hot in the sunlight, you can put your hand on a white vehicle that is heat soaked and not get burned like on a darker color. The white color doesn't look as good on day one as some of the other colors do but, the day you sell the vehicle, the white still looks pretty good. Years ago, I bought a silver Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham D'elegance and it was my Friday/Saturday night car. Over a couple years time period, the silver faded and it was in the garage almost all the time. Only went out at night, like the Batmobile. Same thing with a red 1980 Mercedes-Benz, 300-D. Only went out Friday & Saturday night and maybe to church on Sunday morning. Always in the garage and washed & waxed numerous times per year. And the paint faded on it too. I washed and waxed it so much that the paint on the hood was coming off and I could see the primer thru the red. None of these cars had a ton of miles on them, either. Just not good AZ. colors. I now have a 2014 white Cadillac, XTS, white tri-coat (pearl white) & I've never had it in the garage and it still looks good. I wax it once or twice a year. Just had it washed yesterday & it still looks good. If I bought a Rolls-Royce, I'd look for a white one! (Not planning to!). My experience has been that the white is the most practical color out here in the desert. Car interiors and tires (rubber products) seem to suffer the most in this climate.

I'm honestly surprised by the large number of black and dark vehicles folks own down here in TX in all makes and models. WE pretty much mostly stick to white, with exception of our two bright red vehicles. I think a poor man's black edition would look cool... a Tradesman with black paint and stock black grill and bumpers with black argent wheels.

Friends,

Today I built what I might would buy today if shopping for a truck. Tradesman with nice features:

I would need to paint the wheels, hub covers, Cummins/ 3500/ Ram badges black.

Here is the equipment.

WHAAAAAAT??? No Cab n Chassis

Yep, I could go with this. Nice truck. Dealer has this with chrome that could be had for $55K. I like the all black Tradesman.

But, not gonna happen... my 5500 is my last towing platform unless it get totaled or stolen.

EDIT: I still really like having a hauler bed, extra storage, more bed to RV clearance, and easy access to the bed.

Cheers, Ron

Hey Ron,

What do you think of the equipment, particularly related to towing? I know for another $20K, lots of luxury can be had, but from a great towing platform, it would be hard to beat. :D

Cheers, Ron

Ron, Is raining weather got to you whats wrong with 5500 noting:confused: I can see what about you!:mad:Sure you miss the Hot Rod just hang in there!:confused::mad:

Dont Worry Homer, I'm way happy with my 5500... just talking hypothetically... Nothing wrong with a 3500.:D

Last week, I towed a generator with 750gallons of diesel on the front and a 500KW generator over the wheels, the 5500 towed it fine. This is a way heavy rig with way heavy pin weight.

Likely would have exceeded a 3500 weight on the bed.

Ron I have basically the same power train in my 15 DRW LongHorn. I love my setup and very heavy as you know.

I run 6k pin, that puts me right at 9,750 RAWR.

I have a 2016 with the blackout package, in Texas. As long as you remember the window reflector and get the windows tinted, it isn't too bad for heat.
Funny enough, I have had four black Dodge Rams. I didn't set out to get black, but that's what happened.
