Need machine shop recommendation in OKC area

Transmission issue, No Park, 2 gear out

My truck is old but only 106,000 Wyoming summertime/fall miles on it.

Yesterday coming back (empty) from hunting the transmission acted up. Stopped checked fluid full and bright red (new at 50,000).

So set in D it starts out in 1st, shift to second and stay there. If you accelerate with the throttle it goes into N.

It is of course the infamous 48 but i have it gauged and added the big Aluminum pan from Genos. Towning a 3 horse slant about 25% of the time.

Before I hand it over to local MOPAR (pretty good) I'd like some idea of what I'm facing and what are my options.

Thanks !

First step is to know it is a 47RE, not a 48 which started in non early 2003's. Someone be along with more info on your issue.

I think your issue is fairly common, I just can not remember the cause. I had a 47RE for 14 years however, and that is not an issue I experienced.

Yeah not an expert by any means but here is how I understand how my 47RE works, I saw @Dynamic was around a while back he might have some thoughts on this.

1, 2 ,3 shifts are controlled by the governor pressure solenoid, there is also a governor pressure sensor that provides feedback to control the solenoid.

My guess is they will start with the basics just because, check for any codes, the trans has some limited diagnostic available. That typically will result in 3rd gear starts when there is a code set. So not sure if that will result in much have to connect and see whats up of anything. Sounds like yours is going 1-2.

Then possibly check governor pressures to see how that is looking, the governor pressure solenoid is a duty cycle circuit so as the signal changes so does the pressure. There are some base line pressures they might check for.

Since it sounds like it has not had a rough life it could be as simple as that Gov. Presssure Solenoid assembly. They have a few different versions of that part.

I noticed on the chart that 3rd gear starts to use the front clutch pack if that is wiped out or your band/lever is broke that would require they drop the pan and take a look.

I apologize if any of this is way off base, if you remember please post up your results so it can help someone else down the road.

Good luck on your repair.

If it won't shift to drive the direct clutch pack or piston seal is the problem. unless there is a linkage issue.

What would we ever do without members who post emergency "911" posts, followed by casting barbs for not getting a suitably quick response, and then don't follow up on their issue?

What would we ever do without members who presume to be in charge of what other members shoud do and when ?
The shop had a backup due to the loss of one tech. Te problem is identified as governor pressure solenoid and governor pressure sensor that provides feedback to control the solenoid.
Parts are ordered and work done this week.
Thanks to those who provided the info.
I hope Fucili can now sleep at night, having straightned me out.
I'm taking my other truck to a parade today.

They will be banned as they put out hazardous gas fumes, along with cows and many other life forms. Living organisms etc. are hazardous to the environment.

I agree. Look forward to the "other side" telling us about Hunter's billions in graft, messing with his 14 year old niece, sleeping with his brother's widow and setting aside 10% of his bribes for "the big guy". Harry Chapin was a genius !
