Christmas Lights 2020

We're one of the very few places in the world where we are all free to travel from one end of the country to the other at will and still be able to expect top notch health care and security.
America ain't such a bad place to be in a world pandemic Sno.

If that is true, why do we have the high counts of cases and deaths, or does that just NOT bother you? How about how New Zealand faired with this pandemic? By the way American's health care is way down the scale compared to many other countries and it costs a lot more.

LOL, did you really just compare a country smaller than Montana and half the population of NY to the USA? May as well go one click further and throw Madagascar in there as well o_O

As to the other topics that's already gotten one member suspended. I'll pass.
I was merely commenting that America is a great place. I'm Sorry if that riles you up.

SnoKing;
Please provide factual data on how bad the American Health care system is!

From what I have read about other countries such as Canada. The Canadiens come to America for cancer treatment and elective surgeries, even though their health care cost maybe lower than a US citizen. It's not totally free in Canada, from what I have read and reviewed. It can still cost up to $5,000+ CD, per citizen over and above the taxes paid to support the Canadian healthcare system. Also since it is about 1 GP doctor for every 1,000 Canadian citizen in the mid 2000's and to see a specialist can take up to three months total time, I will take the US health care system.

To answer your question on the high counts of dying in America. It maybe do to the population's diet and exercise choices in life. As an example; I looked at the general population of the 1960-1962 for the US. About 11% of the population was considered OBESE than as compared to the time period of 2009-2010 where the OBESEITY rate was approximately 36%. To me this is the number one reason why the US has such a High Mortality Rate it is not due to the health care system.

After Thanksgiving, it's going to be even worse. I suspect there might be more folks taking things seriously in about 2 weeks from now.

Sadly. there are folks actually dying from it STILL denying it. Biggest comment I get from disbelieving friends and family is it's no worse than the flu... folks die from the flu. I've had the flu 3 times in my lifetime with temps 104° and deathly sick. COVID and the flu need to be taken seriously.

Another 4500 cases in Az., this thing is hitting high speed.
Are there any data on the "severity" and "mortality" among the "verified" positive results. The potential exists for serious outcomes, but from what I have seen reported locally on the medical side many are asymptomatic or sniffles, sneeze and cough...then gone in short order. I have no official numbers other than observations from those performing current tests locally. I seem to remember the doomsayers predicted early in the game a huge increase in "carnage" for this time of year anyway. It just goes along with the standard cold and flu cycles. From what I have seen the mortality rate is down for the number testing positive...and questions by the testers whether the rapid tests continue to have a high false positive result. This is not to diminish the potential seriousness, but to consider a common sense approach and not to over react with sheer panic.

I think by now most are aware of it's potential seriousness. The biggest offenders I see locally are the Amish community - I have repeatedly heard them use their beliefs as an excuse for not wearing masks or social distancing. I go into work early a few days a week and occasionally stop in at a 24 hour gas station for a coffee. This is around 230am. The night crawlers and lot lizards by and large don't have any masks on and the store really doesn't enforce it. I see ages across the spectrum so I tend to believe it's not a specific generation but more akin to a lifestyle....

We've been fortunate in that our schools have been open since early August for in person attendance. There have been very few isolated positives but no outbreaks. I was surprised and disappointed to learn the school board decided to shut the doors at Thanksgiving break and do remote learning until the New Year. I think It's a bit extreme given the positivity rate here.

I don't know if they track that in AZ, but they do in Utah, and I'm sure all the other states do as well.

Regardless of how well some people handle it, Flu deaths range from 12,000 to the worst case of 80,000 Americans per year. As it stands right now, the death toll in the US from COVID is 258,000 and climbing.....at record levels. It's a real concern.

Regarding accuracy of rapid tests, I could be wrong (I haven't researched it), but from what I have heard is they can give false negatives, because from what I have heard, you have to be absolutely riddled with the virus for the test to pick up on it. Therefore, if you test negative, you could still have it. If you test positive, you most certainly have it.

I follow you. This article explains a weakness to a particular popular test: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-fda-test-idUSKBN27J2K6

.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just pointing out the obvious that it is difficult to compare the flu and Covid in that context. If we didn't have vaccines for the flu who knows where the death rate would be.
In the end Covid is here to stay, like the influenza strains it will be a part of the annual vaccine for the foreseeable future.

Yep, and we might get new strains too.

Last I heard I think 50ish deaths in a 24hr period and the rate of infections was 10%. Minot ND is really playing havoc also and there are the non belivers in abundance. If it doesn't exist I would wonder what put all those people in the ground. Az. is somewhere around 6500 total deaths since this mess started.

Sad to say my daughter and son-in-law are in that non-believer group. I've told them my feelings about it (especially since my 1-1/2 yr old grandson can't choose for himself) but they insist its not as bad as the media makes it out to be. All I can do is pray that they stay safe and stay healthy.

The Daughters in-laws live within 2hrs of them I am sorry to say . The SIL's Mother and Step Father are not believers and frequent bars etc. with no precautions. They show up at the house to visit. Now the SIL is stationed at Minot AFB so they have no choice of where to live. The Family consists of the SIL, Daughter, 3year old and a 1 year old. It winds up the Step guy get's tested after the fact and turns up positive. The Daughter has now tested positive while the other 3 show negative. Maybe the other 3 have a different bodily system and it takes longer, I do not know at this point. I have mentioned they need to get re-tested. The Daughter was totally against them showing up but the SIL over ruled her . The Daughter has been very cautious and cleaning everything during this to keep them safe and this A hole contaminates the place. So, depending on how this goes 1 person could literally wipe out a whole family because of his stupidity. If I were this guy I would be checking into disappearing if the outcome is not favorable because he will need it.
