Well Arizona might be even higher! Licensed the new to us 2018 Can Am Spyder in Arizona and it was over 300 dollars.

AZ is close with all the fleeing Commiefornians that bring their failed ideas and voting here. Roads get redone and are just as bumpy if not worse than they were before.

AZ just added a Public Safety FEE of $32. That's more than the 1993 plates cost me of $20. The emissions test is more at $26.

The 2018 Tradesman (~$59K MSRP) cost $746.81 to renew for a year. AZ goes down every year as the vehicle ages.

Disabled Veterans can get most of the fees and taxes removed in AZ on one vehicle. For example 2 years on the 2018 would be $34.80.

A new 2020 Longhorn 3500 MSRP of $85K would be $1085.91 for plates for 1 year.

It could mean that: You purchased it you are responsible for it. So, it is a yearly tax because you purchase a vehicle!

I was pissed with that $32 public safety fee. I'd like to know what % is actually being spent on public safety? I know DPS still drives around in 100K mile + patrol cars and the only areas that get 24/7 coverage are Phoenix and Tuscon. After 11pm, the rest of the state is "on call only"...

I agree w/the Cali sentiments but I've only been here 45+ yrs. All my wheels are old (one advantage of the weather) so truck is "only" $285 for a year (high of $374 new in 1993, low of $212 wavering around mid-2000s). Every car I have now costs more than when it was new, and in one case fees have exceeded the MSRP new.
Not to upset Washingtonians but a pal up there suggested going that direction, just "watch out for the booze tax." My booze tax would be more than offset just in savings from CA emissions testing, not to mention reg fees, and with less testing I'd drink less!

I’m retiring in two years and Northern Idaho is one of the areas I’m looking at. Other than no state income tax in Washington, Idaho taxes are mostly cheaper across the board. Other two areas looking at also are Wyoming and/or possibly Arizona if it not ruined by Californians politics by then.

Anyways my registration bill should be in the mail next month. It was $750 last year.

Went to AAA DMV Services.... Reamed hard to the tune of $1169. Got the late fee in there as well even though I never received a renewal in the mail. I've never in my life had a DMV late fee. My 06 was $274 last time I paid reg on it.... And that was in 2017. You gotta pay out the nose to have nice things here in Crapifornia... I get hit with "Luxury Tax/Property Tax" on the boats as well. If I got something in return for all the taxes collected and paid it wouldn't be that bad.... But I'm not getting anything, Other people are.

I really hate to say this but they have pretty much destroyed what Az. use to be. Northern Az. is very liberal also.

If you are looking for a low cost place to retire I would look into Tennessee. Several of my friends have retired to Tennessee moving close to Huntsville AL but still in Tennessee. This way they can take advantage of the low sales tax in AL and the low property tax in TN.

I myself would not retire in any of the current states out west do to the very liberal movement in most of the westerner states. Also I don't like living inside the house in the daytime during the summer months like you do in AZ. Since I am will beyond the retirement age (71) my wife and I have discussed between ourselves relocating. We have agreed that for now we will stay put in IL. Why grandkids, we will not give up seeing them daily or at least weekly and their school activities.

$358 for my 14 yr old '07 which I ordered in Oct. 06. Regcab no less. My friend's '05 2500 qclb is $410. it' has a higher resale value and is heavier. Put a shell on it and get car plates and lose $200+ weight fee. Just don't take that shell off.

I'd have to live in the house in Tennessee 4 months of the years due to the heat and humidity. AZ's too dry and hot much of the year. I'm a weather wimp so I'll stick it out in San Diego. Maybe we'll see a red wave in California soon? Nope.
