Going to dealer for the fourth radio replacement. This is the 8.4 in a 2016. Each time I lose a.m. and FM but sirius works and nav works. Anybody else having this problem? Is it a known defect? It’s almost a joke now every six months take it in for an oil change and radio replacement.

These are all being replaced under warranty???
if not, you should just replace it with an aftermarket unit.

Seems an odd solution, that unit is fully integrated into the vehicles network.
But so many failures in row, I myself think it isn't the head unit that makes the trouble, it just shows it.
That is a bazillion FCA cars out there with this unit and in general it works extremely well, is highly regarded in comparsion to other MFGs solutions.

Four Radios.....Odds of getting four bad ones are pretty small.....I'd bet the radios aren't/weren't the problem in the first place and there is another gremlin in the dash they can't figure out and are just throwing a radio at it each time.....

Thanks for the replies. Yes I know replacements are refurbed. My extended warranty has covered the replacements. I agree the unit seems solid being that its used in many FCA vehicles. I was just wondering if this problem was common. It sounds from you replies it is not. Each time its repaced it works fine for a while. The truck was new 10-2015. The radio was replaced on 6-2019, 11-2019, and 7-2020.

Oh yeah, back in the day AM WLS the big 89.
AM stations KJR/95 and KOL/1300 from the way-back machine here...back then FM was mostly without commercials, played lots of album music with only the quickie station ID interjected every half hour per FCC rules...and much better fidelity...with real stereo (no reverberator) too! (To get other than AM...installed under-dash Panasonic 4/8 track w/FM stereo tuner in 65 Mustang) How technology has advanced since then. Simpler fixes back then, too...;)

Oh yeah, remember Charlie Brown? Unfortunately he died recently of complications from Parkinsons. He was quite a personality. Miss those days. Yeah, we stream Spotify a lot when we are traveling, no FM when on the road. Stitcher and Podcast addict have tons of great content.

Wolfman Jack! AM skipping all the way from SoCal to the great PNW.

Back on subject, I will second sag2's recommendation on the antenna and or associated connections, especially if it is the built in antenna (without the aerial).

Streaming for me, Pandora or Amazon Music. Radio at all is outdated, just commercials and politics - both i don't like.

I like the spontaneity of what radio is supposed to be. It's supposed to be 'Art'. Some DJ's used to make a lot of money because, frankly, they really were Artists.

I can't listen to much of it anymore. It's all either Dinosaur-Rock or people speaking a language no one understands. I've also about given up on Sirius.

They can go for a while with good music on Watercolors then, all of the sudden, they play absolute garbage that more closely resembles an African Death chant than music.

Same with the Blues Channel.

The problem I have with pre-programmed or 'canned' music is -- Just that. I don't wanna know what song is next. That makes life seriously boring.

On the radio, I can suffer through one bad song but not an entire 15 minute set of nonsensical versions of 'Please Kill Me Now'.

They think it's cool. They think they're the smart set. They think it's progressive and we're just too stupid to appreciate the finer things in life.

The truth is -- It's garbage. It will be remembered until the next piece of garbage comes on the radio.

But to address your point -- Radio isn't outdated, the people that run it are. The Usual Suspects. The same people that screw up EVERYTHING they touch. Everything.... Cities, States, entire generations, civilizatiions..... everything

They've done the same thing to Movies and Television. Funny, all the Movie Theaters are closed and -- Nobody cares.

You'd think the 'smart set' would figure it out. But they won't.

They never do.

We're just old and nobody cares what we think anymore. We aren't part of the newer, brain-washed generations that are almost totally obedient.

Now wait just one minute...you are stepping on my metacarpus there...;):p Other than that, I agree.

I watched Elvis, LIVE, on the Ed Sullivan Show. :)

I just say dinosaur rock because I've heard all the songs so many times. The 60's and 70's ruled. There will never be another time in music like that.

And that's okay. You can only do original stuff so long, then it's just not very original anymore.

Nope, that's not the way those services work. It isn't programmed or canned - it's the exact opposite of that.
Sure you start out by choose a channel, but then you start modify it. Songs you really like get a thumbs up, one you dislike a thumbs down, the midfield stays untouched. So the whole stream goes more and more to stuff you really like. That's an AI behind the scene working with your input to serve songs that you might like.
It is YOU that makes the Programm.
That's why i can't stand Radio.

Give it a try, it's free.

My favorite channel is 70/80's Pop.
Best Music ever! :cool::p

KJR's Pat O'Day passed away in 2020. I believe he lived on San Juan Island for the last 20 years or so and sold real estate there.

Wife's Challenger has had three radios. Each one came with a different problem. Nav didn't work on one, some of the sat. channels weren't there,
speed control volume gone. After the third radio was defective, dealer said come back next week. Then two days after it started working properly.
