4WD indicator switch location...

Ok. I have an 02 that has had the TCase swapped. It is a 241DHD... but I believe its for a CAD front axle truck. Trying to get the 4wd indicator on the dash working. But not sure where to find the switch. Everything I have read says it should be on top of the Tcase near the shift lever and linkage from the factory... is this it?

My 99 has the cad and the 241HD option on it. On mine it's on the cad and the light doesn't come until the axle engages.

That’s where the switch should be it looks like somebody deleted it and replaced it with a boat hull drain plug?

Thanks Signal73... now that I know where it goes, I ordered a switch. It looks like it fits the unused 2 prong plug that I found laying on the crossmember. It does look like a boat plug in there...

Well... I've been spending hours on forums learning as much as I can... apparently in 2002 they eliminated the CAD front axle. So the front diff and driveline are always engaged and turning. They also eliminated the pivot point on the Tcase shift linkage, so the shift pattern is reversed. I have the 02 shift knob... but it doesn't match the actual shift pattern. Which is why I want the light to work. At some point I'll hunt down the year specific linkage so it shifts according to the sequence on the knob. Been a PITA trying to figure out all the little mods and swaps the truck has had in it's former life.

I have an '02 3500, 3.51 gears, automatic. No CAD and a 241DHD transfer case. I rolled underneath and took a picture from the driver's side:

The rod on the right corner of the picture is the shift linkage. I have no idea if that's the 4WD indicator switch.

The shift pattern (from front to rear) is 4L N 2H 4H which is the same as my '98 1500.

See.... now my Tcase shift knob reads what you listed... but my case shifts from front to back 2H-4H-N-4L. My understanding is... at some point they eliminated the pivot point in the center of the shifter. After that the pattern switched to what you list.

Shift pattern is the same throughout the years till todays vehicles on the show room.

I don't understand how the linkage would be different. There's a pivot in the shifter to a rod to an arm on the transfer case. It's pretty simple.

That is true. but it wasn't until the end of the 2002 build dates. My '02 truck (build date October, 2001) has the CAD. My brother-in-law's '02 truck (build date May, 2002) has no CAD.

Thank goodness for these forums... there is no doubt I have a 241 DHD... PTO cover, tag, and all... so what is different? IDK...

In a different forum... someone said their 96 241 had the same pattern as mine... go figure. Mine definitely has the PTO. So not DLD. #diggingforthetruth

Looking at a couple of forums there was a mention that from 94-98 the shifter pivot was on the transmission housing. The orientation would be [shift knob] - [link to transfer case] - [pivot]. When the shift knob is all the way back (seat) then the transfer case arm is all the way back (4L).

On 98.5 - 2002 the pivot is on the cab body: [shift knob] - [pivot] - [link to transfer case]. When the shift knob is all the way forward (dash) then the transfer case arm is all the way back (4L).

Some other sites mention a difference between the New Venture Gear 241 and the New Process Gear 241. It's the same company but different factories.

Mine is a New Process 241DHD.

So... this info leads me to the next question... why do I have a vacuum actuator underneath my driver side battery if I don't have a CAD axle? For the cruise control maybe?

Yes that's the cruise servo.
