New truck or not I’m in a awful tizzy

Ok my 99 had some issues this early spring. Two months later and a new bd valve body and gov pressure sensor and solenoid all bd new atf plus 4 and a great Indy mechanic all is good. $1600 total Truck runs great shifts good Meanwhile I ordered a new 2022 ho 6 speed 3500 i ton. I sometimes in the summer haul my 3000 lb camper Money is not the problem here. Do I need a new truck. Will I like a new truck will it be way better than the old truck or am I going crazy. New truck is ordered deliver soon. I want something to travel with and not worry about it. I can’t work on my old truck no more to old. I want box stock not worry about it anymore no more bombed for me but I did love it still do but can’t do it anymore I’m having a tough time giving up the old school. I still can turn the new truck back but time is running out. New or old. Cant take nothing with you when you leave right ? Your help is needed here. My wife says new truck. My heart says old New or old that’s the question here

I went through some of the pictures of my 2003 camping yesterday. Yes, I miss it. The Garrett Powermax Stage 3 GT3788R Ball Bearing Turbo howl I really miss. Until I kick the high idle on in the 2018 and the AC gets with the program even when it's 118F out. The seat is a mile better without the bar up my butt the ill-designed 2003 seats had. It's got a warranty for the same power level my 2003, not even close to stock, had.

The biggest concern I have is scheduling the 2018 for work at the dealership including oil and fuel filter changes. (It can be a week out and is seriously a problem. Getting a phone call back is also a major problem including from GM dealers lately.) My out of pocket has been tires, two Odyssey batteries, and maintenance. The 2003 had some major repair bills: engine injectors, trans refresh, turbo, seat motor frame, paint, needed a dash... But the downtime for these major repairs was significant to the point a second vehicle made sense to have. Now I get a loaner when it's in the dealer.

My tools haven't seen oil in two years.

I believe you will not be disappointed with the new truck. My 2020 2500 Laramie's power, comfort and technology is light years better than the older trucks. I am even getting consistently better fuel economy, 3 to 4 MPG better than my '02. Now I am also no longer my own warranty company, at least for the next 8 years or 100,000 miles. The dear wife even likes it so much she prefers we take the truck wherever we go.

Money is not the problem here.

I would keep it for backup or when you want to listen to an old noisy Cummins.

I kept my '01 for both reasons.

Turbo Terry I went from a 02 short bed to a 2018 long bed. Difference from night and day. And your wife will love it too..

Yep love my 20' Has not been trouble free, (EGR Valve was replaced at 10k miles) but I didnt have to fix it either. Enjoy the comfortable ride!!, I cannot believe how much better the new truck pulls, rides, and the POWER... as has been said, more than my 04 had after mods... Getting same MPG as the old truck and makes trips much easier.

TT I feel or at least felt your pain. My 01 was probably my favorite vehicle I ever owned and also owned it the longest of any vehicle I had owned. I had such a bond with it. Perhaps because of all the work I did to it over the years. As I am sure you and many others who bombed those earlier ones when the diesel performance industry was really in its infancy, the trial and error, the large amount of research required and the leaps of faith on some of that work really created a bond, at least for me. I really did struggle with getting a new one. My 01 had gotten to the point of really needing some major work ie some body rust, paint another set of ball joints and the list went on and in my estimation I was looking at about $10k to get it back to where I wanted it to be and was I willing to put 10k into 18 year old vehicle with 375k miles on it (though ironically the 10k was probably just a small portion of what had been spent on bombing the dang thing over the years. However with that being said the new ones (in my case a 2017) the difference is amazing as previous posters have stated already. Fairly quiet, better ride, better fit and finish, dashboards aren't disintegrating etc. I have 152k on my 17 so far and outside of recalls and regular wear items it has been to the dealer twice once for a fan clutch and once for an oil leak both were covered under warranty. I really like this truck and am very happy with it. Sort of like I loved the 01, the 17 is more like I love you like a friend though it is better truck.

I also like it being said I don’t have to worry about it anymore I voided my warranty almost immediately back in 1999. First time I every did that in my life. Better off modified baby. Nowel RIP and the money I spent but I was fun but also had some moments as well I’m calling my salesman dealer. Heh where’s my mew truck 2022 yeah baby

He talks of cab change frame and box change also chip shortages No real news coming out from dodge. While I was driving the lot I noticed this huge thing on the 2021 trucks above the cargo light. Maybe 6 inches high .is this sattelite radio or what. Sure going make retro fitting old camper to new truck a pain The whole camper will have to
Be raised 6 inches higher. It almost a no go unless it can be removed or something

There is very little info on 2022’s yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is several months optimistic.

The antenna is probably a combo of 4G/Sat and maybe radio, but probably not. It’s towards the front on my 18, but I’ll look at a 19+ and see if it’s the same antenna.

I think your right about several months for a order and a build. Transit man rumored Dodge Chrysler is doing a big merge with some company. He told me the name but I don’t know who it is . He said I have first right of refusal when if and when it gets here and would get my $500 back. I know this guy pretty well he’s been here a long time. Do I cancel my order and wait till next year. Yep. In the front row, trying to hide among the clearance lights.
While the bed camera view camera system does bulk up the bed light fixture a teensy bit, I don't believe it protrudes upward or aft enough to obstruct a camper installation. The 360 degree view cameras are all integrated well and petty much undetectable. I see nothing in the brochures having a dimensional feature so grandiose on or around the roof.
