Friends,

After hijacking Sno's Can Am thread, thought it would be fun to start a Jeep thread. I know the there are Jeep Forums, but we here for this thread share TWO loves, Ram Cummins Trucks and Jeeps.

I'll start, mine is a loaded 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK Sport 2dr Hardtop. I made such a great deal on the purchase saving $4K, that even as I was buying it, I had plans to install 33s truck tires, 2.5 inch spacer leveling kit (1 inch in the rear), and a heavy duty sway bar in the rear. I more or less made it a poor man's Range Rover. I installed Banks Programmer. squeezing out 15 more HP and better shifting on reg unleaded. It came with premium sound system, but installed 200watt sub amp and upgraded from the factory 8" inch sub to an 8inch Kicker, but set crossover network to function more as a woofer than a sub. I have terrible tinnitus, so can't take top off, and don't crank music, just like good, crisp sounds. Just had to take grill guard off to install Blue Ox frame mounted hitch. I drag it behind MH now to. The roof rack is an el cheapo universal one from Amazon using 30 year old Yakima rack bars.

Anyhoo, that's mine...hope to see pics and stories on y'all's Jeeps.

I sold my last Jeep in 1986, a Jeep Grand Cherokee (Full Size) 360 Cu In V8, -full time 4X4 auto. This was an AMC vehicle so, you had Chrysler, Ford and GM parts on the vehicle. The only real issue I had with the vehicle other than 7 to 8 MPG was the rear window. The window track had to be replaced every year in order to lower the rear window to open the tail gate on the truck. I got to where I could change out the old window track and replace with a new one in under an hour. Before that I had a 1979 Jeep Cherokee, 258 Cu In straight 6 with a manual 2 SPD transfer case with a 3 SPD manual transmission. Neither vehicle had air conditioning other than 4 windows down and 60 MPH wind velocity.

They were both great vehicles and I could go anywhere with them. My wife and I use to take them off-roading in the UP of MI, on old logging trailers. Most people do not even know about the gorges that are in upper MI and the amount of snow fall for that area, even some of residents of the area. My children still talk about the trip to FL, when we went to Disney World in 1984, and how hot and sticky the vinyl seats were.

But alas no pictures have survived of either of them.

Jim,

I love the Big Cherokees, there is one in a lot early 70s that I get twitchy about when I see it. The 360 in those was designed to pull big RVs.

Sweet trucks.

I actually was thinking about changing my service fleets over to Jeeps, they might have pretty good resale value, you can get a very stripped out version, AT, for almost same price as a 1500 now a days.

Here is my 1950's Willys Pickup. Might not be quite the intent, but I think it counts.

It what we call a Willys Salad the cab is early but the grill, fenders, hood is later.

This pic is very old.... but still have it. Hope to get it back on the road in the next few years.

My Jeep is a 97 4 Runner, locking diff, 2" lift, Bilsteins, BFG KO2 tires, Wet Okole neoprene seat covers.

In college I had a 95 4runner with a 22RE, some minor motor mods, 4" lift, 4.88's, rear 56" leaf swap, rear ARB locker on 33 TSL's. After college I moved all the suspension and running gear to a 92 Reg Cab 22RE, but lost the heavy flywheel and exhaust (both where great for wheeling), and stepped up to 35" BFG's. After the first kid my wheeling days dwindled and now I don't do much anymore, but it sure was fun!

We still have a 03 4Runner with a 2.5"/1" lift, but it's the wifes and doesn't get out of town often.

I prefer the TJ to the older Toy's only because the top comes off :)

And from the way back vault a 1952 Willys M38 and your humble scribe. Pic is about 1977?

Back in the late late 60's I met a neighbor R.B.W. who became a friend, a mechanical fix-it-all mentor, patent holder, mechanical engineer taught me MC Hare Scramble racing, being equal to the occasion attention to detail, lack of attention to detail and he introduced me to my wife. He was in the US Army and while in the service he owned (somehow) one of these. When he got an itch to get one for fun the first thing he bought was new military wheels and 9.00 X 16 non directional military tires. We mounted them up in his driveway with hand tools. And I'm just wondering what is this all about. Then we towed his 1952 M38 home from a surplus dealer in Ohio. Needed TLC but it was solid. To fit the tires he took the spring C shackles off, cut them in half and expertly added a tube spacer between the halves, welded them up and that made the slight but necessary lift to clear. Various mechanical repairs but nothing major.

These used a 4 cyl flathead, 3 speed, manual transfer case, hand choke, hand throttle control, foot push button starter, 24VDC military electrics throughout, canvas seats, folding top and you sat on the gas tank with a HUGE opening to fuel it up.

We'd get in go for ice cream rides, evening cruises, and lots of fun going thru a new very large development in the bull dozer phase it was vary capable of going where ever you pointed it.

OK so where is it? Shortly after setting up house and new expenses and kids I sold it back to my buddy and that's the last of it.

Now for the observant, those are 36" inseams I'm wearing look at that for a reference as to how tall those 9.00 X 16"s really are.

Good times, thanks R.B.W it's only a four bolt project. This could be the one I still wish I owned.

Gary

My second one of these, this one has a Solomotorsports stage 1 long travel 4" cut / turn lift and drives alot better than my last one....

I also had a 51' Willys truck like Timd32 and love to see them in the wild!!, I wish I would've kept and restored it now but hindsight is 20-20 from 30y ago, DW and I did not have the $$ to do it back then.

Since someone already broke the mold with the Toyota's I'll jump in :)

She's rough around the edges and more tractor like than Jeep. Low and slow and you'll arrive with all your teeth :D

And another quickie, this one is at least in the right family. First gen 1990.

Picked this one up for my 16 year old son. Tennessee truck, 3.9/NP2500 4wheel drive. 84k gentle miles. Truck sat a LONG time and had to overcome some issues that would be considered basic in most instances. Turns out many parts have been discontinued...Who would ever have guessed. A big thanks to Sag2 for helping me get ahold of some much needed hardware.

I've owned a bunch of them, here's a few that managed to stick around for a while.

94 XJ, 4" lift, CV driveshaft, 4.10's, Detroit & TruTrac, 2lo fork. Best off roader of any Jeep I've had. Also was my wife's daily driver. :D

This one I've had since 2004, now belongs to my son. 2" OME lift, 31's, LSD F&R, 4.7 HO

The weekend toy, 82 CJ8 with less than 50k original miles. Fuel injected 350, NV4500, 4.10's, TruTrac
