Helping my elderly grandparents with a new ford purchase. They have had some issues on thier 2015 Ford and its out of warranty (if they had MaxCare it would be covered) so they are going to sell and buy another new one. Does Ford have a version of MaxCare? anyone use it? Dealer says they offer warranties but I assume they are local "extended handshakes" or the 3rd party crap that Ram dealers push?

I believe ford does have an oem extended warranty. While you should be able to get it from the dealer as you mentioned at least some ram dealers offer some 3rd party bs warranty. I know mine did, didn't even offer the oem one at all.

In any case you can get them online for usually cheaper anyway. One of the best for Ram is Ziegler auto group[ and they do show a ford oem extended. mioght be worth a call.

They have a 2015 Transit Connect (32k miles) that randomly turns OFF while driving.... then they have to stop, put in park and restart.... Dealer has had multiple times..."Cannot duplicate customer concern....." They are late 80s and it is not safe for them on the highway to figure this out, last time my grandfather (92) was shaken when he got stuck in the center median lane when the lights all went off and it started chiming out of the blue...... Frankly it would p#ss me off too, but I told them they can get almost 20k for it... trade / sell it to a dealer and get a new one, with a warranty.. and decide later if you want to drive more when the 3/36 gets to the end.. I just wasnt sure if the answer was YES or NO so I could tell them they could extend the factory warranty past 3/36.

EDIT [ I would take it on, but it is 3500miles away and intermittent so not sure I could figure it out either... most likey a wiring, ecm, or grounding issue but I'm in NC and they are in OR so tough to help out...]:mad::mad:

What kind of issues make them want to trade in this insane vehicle market?

Exactly why I told them to sell... Carvana offered almost 20k.... so take that and throw it on a new one (30K) and be done. Ford is offering 0.9% on 36mo... so easy peasy. She showed me a 2020 last night with 20k miles dealer was asking 31k... problem is finding a 2022, they are slim pickings and orders are 6 mo..

This doesn't sound like a warranty concern to me. The vehicle could have a one hundred year / million mile warranty, but it won't help with an undiagnosed problem that puts the grandparents in a dangerous situation repeatedly. I think I would recommend buying a reliable vehicle that suits their needs versus a buying vehicle with the priority of an extended warranty.

I just went through over 1 year of dealing with an electrical problem on SOB: intermittent bad ground. TPMS and remote door locks would quit. After FOUR (4) Dealers in warranty (One wouldn't even touch it, one gave up, several no problem found even with me showing them video of the service TPMS message.) they finally replaced the ground wire to a new ground location and because they couldn't identify the exact place it failed called it warranty. This electric vehicle push is going to cripple us.

Need to find a dealer with a tech that can fix it not a "parts changer" dealership and techs. Buying a new potential problem to be serviced at the same dealership is IMO asking for the same problems. No matter the brand: if you can't get it fixed: buy something else you can get fixed.

And they wanna buy another Ford vehicle after that experience?

They love their Transit Connect... Size, easy to get in / out.. rear doors (not lift gate).. They have told me for years it was the best last car they ever would have... I have to believe that a new one will not have the same problems but you never know.. The only other simitar offering out there is the Mercedes Metris and its way more $$ than they want to depart with at this time or the RAM Promaster.. which has the tigershark 2 stroke engine...

This is exactly why I dont feel buying the extended Ford Premium Care will help, they may have coverage but then still nobody can fix it and then the problem remains and persists... I agree 100% its a bad ground, somewhere, but I simply cannot get to it to ferret it out.

We had that 2.4 in our Compass and it was a fine engine.

And I had the predecessor of the promaster city in Europe for a couple of years, with a diesel engine, and it was a very fine vehicle. Didn't have a Single issue with it as long as I owned it, was commercial use back then.

Maybe an auto electric shop in the area that’s highly recommend to fix the current one? $10K for newer isn’t bad.

yeah.. that's what I thought.. but now I have found that all the dealers in the Oregon area are colluding to charge a blanket 5k over SRP on them... I told them to stick it where the sun doesnt shine,... I can order one for SRP, just have to wait the 5 months... I told the last dealer I talked to that was trying the "pressure" campaign that there was no way in 4ell I was paying 1k/mo. to get it early.. especially when I can get them what they want if I wait...

5k markup on a 70k Ram or Corvette is one thing,... 5k on a 30k minivan is just plain rediculous.

I thought about that, but they are in a remote area of Oregon, its 40+ miles to civilization and bigger cities, and they are pretty much on their own so would be challenging to get there / come back and lastly they are not able to deal with it so it fall so me.. I would gladly go after it but as I said its the other side of the country and intermittent so I'd rather write a check and move them into something newer and "hopefully" more reliable.

Having driven the contenders and not picking any favorites, I'd not rank a Metris in the same class as a PMC or a Connect, nor suggest the M-B was any more reliable. Perhaps they should also consider a Kia Carnival (sliding side doors, with a hatch) as it begins low-30s but Kia's standard warranty is better than most.
