Got my new 3500 SRW back in june, running great...

Now that its cold, I`m having some issues with the push to start stuff, had a 16 prior (with a key) that was easy and predictable for the grid heaters.

Sometimes when I hold the brake pedal and hit the button once, the grid heaters will fire, I wait for the time-out, and then I have to hit the button again. (i wish it would just auto start at the end of the timeout). Sometimes tho (bout 30%), if I hit the brake, then button once, it starts immediately, and I can tell it aint happy. Ive been careful to push the button only once quickly... What am I missing?

Also gotta say the tailgate actuator instead of an actual handle with linkage _sucks_. I usually have to hit it 2-3x and jiggle the whole gate to get it to open. I do have an appt with the dealer for the grid heater recall this thurs, so questions will be asked.

thanks for any info

Grid heater should come on below about 40F. If it comes on you should be able to hit the start button again to get it to start without waiting.

yep this isnt an issue, i`m aware of the double tap. i`m ok with waiting. just havent found a proper way to cold start -with- the grid heaters, and not have to hit the brake+button again at the end of the grid cycle. maybe its not possible. the immediate start when cold is concerning tho, will be worse when its really cold

Try holding the brake pedal a little harder. My 18 does the same thing, sometimes it starts after the grid heater cycle, sometimes I have to hit the go button again. Easiest way is just remote start, that works every time.

i usually hold the pedal with my left hand and start with right, as i let the truck warm up in the morning before i get in. unfortunately I dont have remote start.. I`ll try the pedal trick, thanks

How cold are you talking?

I wasn’t aware you could get a truck without remote start, especially with the keyless setup.

I have noticed the same thing as @sag2 and even then sometimes it won’t start on the first button press. I rarely wait for my grid heaters thou, even in the cold. It has to be below 0° for me to let it run a full cycle, unless I remote start.

Hey when you use AMZ/OIL who needs grid heaters.

The truck is not starting because the fob is not detected inside of the truck as you are leaning in. The truck will start with one push of the start button after the heaters cycle. No second push is needed..if the fob was detected inside of the cab on the first push.

The truck won’t let you get to ACC or ON without detecting the fob either, so that is not what’s happening to the OP.

Sometimes it takes 2 button pushes to start. It’s something with the truck processing the brake signal, not the detecting the key fob.

Yes, however you have to change the oil filter from the top, because if you go through the wheel well the oil will ALL run out of the filter and over flow the ziploc bag.
You need to get the threaded cap that goes over the filter . It takes a little work but you can get it on . I think Genos sells it.
