Just going to drop this here....Sound quality is not good but it is interesting (boiling ribs on Diners Drive in and Dives).

DH,
Pretty interesting...Even Guy mentions apprehension of boiling meat. Folks I knew who boiled meat still ended up on the grill... they did it for two reasons... boil fat out so little or no flame up and to ensure meat gets done., particularly chicken

On rare occasions, mostly a being a little lazy, I will place chicken leg quarters (beef leg quarters to big) in a pan with some rub on them, broil them in the oven 30 minutes, turn them, drown in BBQ sauce, change oven from broil to bake, finish them for 30 to 40 minutes 350'. They taste pretty wonderful. This pretty much the only time use sauce.

I'm still committed to my style of smoking and grilling, but always happy to see other methods, including boiling. I like the way they flavor the meet and I guess the way they boil them it reinforces flavor, versus removing it.

Let us know if you try this and happy to see other BBQ methods. Thanks for posting.

Happy Grilling, Ron

I had always heard not to boil meat either and I havent myself, just saw that show and thought everyones reaction was interestingly very positive. Not sure its worth the effort but I would be happy to try it the next time I'm in Vegas.

I'm with ya brother I'd try it with a cold beer in heartbeat. They certainly do have a process...

Cheers with your beers.

JR, that’s great! Show us job one with it.
I’ve been using the grille pretty regularly, mostly for basic BBQ jobs. The fam is definitely addicted to how this thing does basic things like burgers, dogs and chicken, even without any prep. Potato kinish and baked potato come out unbelievably good.
Probably the last recipe I did was a lemon pepper bird rub, but instead of a whole bird, I used bone in breasts with the skin still on. This was excellent. I can post the recipe when I find it.
A coworker just bought the new style Pit Boss with the updated console and the separate smoker cabinet on top. He’s learning and enjoying too.

Also, I did some corn bread in my cast iron pan using apple pellets. This was pretty awesome too. I will bake more in the future.

Our shop fridge broke yesterday and everything thawed, not spoiled, so the pellet grill full yesterday and today, then freezing the cooked food. Sausage, country style ribs, and thick pork chops smoking today. Soooo good!:D:D:D:cool::cool::cool:

Now you get to use the 5500 and bring big shinny new shop fridge, home soon.;)

Howdy Homer! Hope all is well. We're Fine. Ran late cleaning lint out of fridge coils. At 100°F, the blocked coils caused the compressor to overheat and thermal protection shut the compressor down. Blew lint out, placed floor fan on the compressor, and plugged her back in. From 97°F read inside fridge at 1500hrs, fridge read 38°F and freezer read 13°F at 2355hrs. And, at 0800hrs, 36°F (set point) fridge and 0°F (set point) which I think is impressive. Even the ice maker was almost full. So, between cooking thawed food and giving CPR to my shop liquor fridge and meat freezer, and 103° or 105°F, I'm pretty whooped. I get injections in my knees tomorrow, so I'll get recharged for another 6 mos.

Not bad for a 14yo GE side by side floor model. I like to keep old things going, including me.:p:D:cool:

Chucks Ron, you fixer cheap well at least got the Ice Box working most important item, my health is just fine still working at Refinery making fuel for Navy ships.:)

A very useful thing, thanks to which cooking becomes not as routine as before. I use wood pellets for myself and am very satisfied with it.
Every Sunday I cook barbecue on the grill and I always use wood pellets, it is very convenient to cook on them and thanks to these pellets, the taste of meat turns out soft and tender. As for Rec-Tec, I advise you to buy it, it's a very good thing and I also cook with it often, especially I like to make sandwiches in a sandwich maker https://www.amazon.com/pie-iron-for-campfire-cooking/dp/B088H42W2L which my relatives gave me for my birthday. I also like to grill dried meat for beer using wood pellets. I very rarely cook without wood pellets because I love the taste of wood in meat. I hope you can make your choice, good luck!
