I am not convinced the wrist pins are bad. How do they go bad overnight? It is almost like the computer had a glitch and caused some serious preignition/detonation. Filled up with bad fuel? How did they determine it was 5 and 6? Pull all rod caps and inspect. If they are good and they all "feel" the same, (wrist pin slack) then they are "feeling" an unknown at this point. Until they pull out an assembly and prove it, then it is still a guess. A $30K engine needs proof.

At Last, got my truck back. Chrysler replaced the engine with a new long block. New engine comes with 100,000 mile/5 yr warrantee.
The dealer managed to get Chrysler to split the cost as a good will warrantee coverage, since the original engine only had 110,000 miles on it and service records showed all maintenance had been performed properly. Technically it was out of warrantee both time and miles. Being polite to the service/warrantee manager didn't hurt either.
Got my grin back but with a lighter wallet.

If you don't mind sharing what was the cost for the longblock installed in total or your split of it?
My out of pocket was about $14K, I had them do the transmission fluid/filter, differentials, transfer case fluids and grease the front drive shaft while they had it so that added some to it

That does sound a bit steep. A complete engine list price is $25k, a long block $14k, and short block is $6k. If it was wrist pins not sure why they didn't just do the short block. An extra $12k for a cylinder head is a bit much.

i don't think they have anyone capable to do actual engine repairs just RnR.

So "Free install" of a longblock the OP purchased and warranty added. Still better than 100% OP's cost.

Bluntly there is value to MOPAR backed warranty vs. independent shop that may be cheaper but, one location only, and may go bankrupt gone tomorrow. Got the T shirt from that X2.
