Hi all! Been a long time lurker of TDR since I was much younger back when the Internet (Compuserv/Prodigy days) wasn't like how it is now.

Back in 2002 we bought a Dodge RAM 2500 with the 5.9l Cummins, automatic and it was only 2wd. Primarily used it as a daily driver and what not. We got it up to ~190,000 miles and we traded it for a Jeep Compass in 2007. I had huge regrets over it. Although it was needing some engine and suspension work. Great, reliable truck. Miss it a lot. Before that we had a 1992 F250 diesel, then went to a Ranger, then a F150, then to the RAM 2500... something to that effect...

I kept fixing Jeep up until this year when it almost caught fire while I went into a gas station to get some food. The Jeep had a bunch of electrical problems due to salt corrosion from where I live. I was hesitant to park it in my garage because I was afraid it would go up one night while I was in bed sleeping. Not a good feeling.

After doing some research and what not, I was on the fence of a 2020 RAM 2500 with the 6.7l Cummins or a 2020 RAM 1500 with the EcoDiesel. I also test drove other makes like Ford and GM products, and I liked the design and feeling of the RAM trucks. Both trucks I narrowed down had 51k miles on them. After driving both and weighing the pros and cons, I went with the EcoDiesel and it was $10k less than the RAM 2500. I also got an extended 7 year/125,000 mile warranty $0 deductable through my local RAM dealer. The truck I got has the Gen 3 EcoD engine and the ZF 8HP75. Speaking of which, is the reason why I didn't mind which vehicle I chose, because I've been using that dealer for decades and I know they wouldn't sell me junk. They also gave me all prior service history on the truck, which was a huge bonus.

So after driving it 1,500 miles so far, it is one heck of a truck! I don't mind the DEF, even though it adds to the cost of driving it. The mileage on the EcoD is insane. I've been getting 29-31 mpg!

Only thing that makes me upset is the fact that Stellantis/FCA stopped the EcoD engine to go electric/hybrid. I don't like the new Hurricane gas engine, because to get the true performance out of it, you'd need to run premium gasoline, and where I live, premium is more expensive than diesel.

While I know it's not the same as a Cummins engine, I feel like I made a solid choice on getting the Gen 3 EcoDiesel engine based on the research I did. I really liked the feel of both platforms. I wish I could've bought both the Cummins and the EcoD.

I'm just waiting to get the newly designed CP4 popped into my truck, whenever that'll be. I was last told end of second quarter of 2023 Stellantis is supposed to be sending out information to owners. When I went to get the OEM trailer brake controller installed at the dealer two weeks ago, I was chatting with the service manager and they told me that Stellantis started sending out the new CP4 pumps to install in 2023 new trucks (still on dealer lots/unsold trucks/Jeeps) to green light them to sell. My dealer didn't have any 2023 EcoD's stuck on lot, so it didn't apply to them. From what I can tell on other forums, they were correct, I'm seeing some fresh 2023 EcoD owners.

Now back to being a diesel vehicle owner again, I'm very happy.

Oh, and for what it's worth I am not going back to gasoline or electric/hybrid ever again. I just don't like the driving aspect of either fuel type. I just prefer diesel trucks.

I know how you feel about diesel. All my current vehicles are diesel powered. 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD, 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel and 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 CTD. I'm seriously considering a Ram Eco Diesel truck, too.

Wow! That's quite a collection you got going there.

As a kid I've always loved diesel engines. The efficiency, the sound, and the principle of how they work always had a huge interest in me. All my friends know how much I love diesel.

I'd highly recommend getting a RAM EcoD. At least test drive one. Just make sure you stay in the 2020-2023 range for that Gen 3 engine. The Gen 3 engine 80% different than the Gen 2, which was from 2014-2019.

Likely by the time I get another diesel truck, my only choices will be a heavy duty anyways due to the agenda/EPA nonsense... even though today's diesels burn way, way more cleaner than gas engines, especially with the advanced DPF/SCR after treatment systems. Even without all that, they still burn cleaner when tuned correctly.

Welcome then officially to the TDR.

Looks like a nice truck, and agree get one while you can and enjoy the ride.

Thank you. There are a lot of resources on here, and will be a big help even later on down the line. Should've joined way back when I had the 2002, but the truck never gave any huge issues. But I did use this forum as a guide, but I never made an account. Figured I'd pay it forward by joining up and paying some dues. About time I did something for the info that I've got. Good stuff on here.

Anyhow, I'm enjoying the ride, it's great.

Even if I stumble upon an issue down the line with the EcoD, it'll get fixed. Nothing's perfect.
