My heart is broken minus a front wheel bearing which I ignored and push it tell it failed this truck was hands down the most reliable never let me stranded and the most fun I ever had. Towed constantly sometimes pushing it towing 20k here and there while still maintaining speed over passes going against the governor in 3rd gear. 200k 48re factory completely stock minus boost and EGT gauge. It did its number one job and kept me and my family safe. Not at fault thank goodness. Front frame is twisted to the right passenger door can’t open.

So what happened? something to do with wheel bearing , caused you to crash into and something?

Odd the headlights arent broke .....??? what did you hit?

So you ignored a front wheel bearing and it failed causing the collision? How is that not your fault?

Dodge vs Cheby

Just think if you had one of those giant, heavy, welded, bling, front bumpers. Probably would have tweeked your frame a heck of alot more

Could you elaborate on this? First im hearing that aftermarket bumpers can damage a frame in an accident.

I just installed a Road Armor on my 03 that i got for a steal of a deal. My reasoning for getting it was front end protection, I have a Mishimoto Rad, and Intercooler that I didn't want to have to replace for minor fender benders.

Is there a way heavier aftermarket bumpers can be reinforced for better impact deflection?

Pretty common actually, the bumper doesn’t crumple or absorb as much of the impact so the energy is transferred to the frame. The big aftermarket bumpers are great in low impact scenarios as there isn’t any damage, but with more force the energy gets into the frame.

Some of the very expensive bumpers, like ARB, will have crush zones incorporated into the mounts.

Noted, Slow down for the dense, speed up for the squishys.

Can the frames be braced for better resistance to flex from an impact? Or the bumpers reinforced to better transfer force?

Even in the case of OP his frame still got tweaked beyond the crumple zone of the bumper mount brackets which are fairly beefy. Comparing the front bumper brackets to the rear I would think the fronts have a better chance at deflecting the impact.

The impact here was perpendicular to the frame. The impact to his tow hook bent his frame. It’s pretty much flush with the OE front bumper. How far does your RA bumper stick out past the OE bumper? Quite a long lever there to bend the frame rails.

I'd have to get measurements to be precise, but its not a small amount given it has room to accommodate a winch.

There are pictures towards the bottom of this thread

If im understanding this correctly the more protrusion past the factory bumper the more leverage that is applied to the frame in a collision?
