Deletes Legal?

New gasoline 6.7 Cummins next year

Just bought the last two air filters for my truck

Deletes have always been illegal, since the Clean Air act and vehicle manufacturers are still responsible for compliance with emissions rules.
anti tampering laws have been on the books for 50+ years, nationwide

then again, doing alot of things to your vehicle is illegal but it doesn't stop them from occurring.

Of course, it follows that if the government powers that be decides to gut the EPA
by either of several methods such as restricting funding or enforcement methods
it stands to reason enforcement of existing laws becomes more lax.

I can see this turn into a "right to repair" act. Kind of like John Deere and that fiasco.

I like the emissions on these trucks, when they work.

I personally never had emissions problems on any diesel truck I've operated. Got well over a million miles on modern diesels with DPFs and SCR systems.

reality is it depends alot on where you live, what you can get away with.
I would venture to say half the diesel trucks in my locale end up deleted
my neighbor is an Owner Operator, his Peterbilt is deleted.. Cummmins X15 engine.. you can still see the DEF tank but the thing has exhaust stacks..

my truck got weight reduction surgery after a non warrantable failure of the DEF pump
as I had a choice of spending 2500 bucks for an electric pump
or spending 1200 bucks for a tune and a stainless steel 4 inch pro flow exhaust system..
I was fine with dumping DEF in the truck but if the powers that be
can't empower people to keep this stuff functioning in a cost efficient manner
people who live in lax regulatory areas are not going to comply.
That is just the way it is..

yall aint as free as you think. Texas has vehicle inspections, just not emissions. the really free states dont even require vehicle inspections. LOL.

I am not Texas but my son is. He is missing a few parts on his 15 RAM.

In WA we don't have vehicle inspection as TX does but I am more inclined to say yes to them. Perfect example of a rig I took a pic of from the other day and a friend sent a pic of same rig a couple hours later at a different location.

tellya what I think, if you prefer freedom , sometimes you have to prefer other people's freedoms that you don't like..
you know what I mean?

yeah, I don't like alot of things on a personal level but if they don't directly affect me I dont want someone else telling me what to do and how to live
I figure I don't get to tell them how to live either , otherwise I would be a hypocrite.

Third follow up video.

I can't listen to that guy in the you tube, but since California had a special carve out put in place in the Clean Air Act for them to be able to set separate emission rules for MV's
I suspect the law would have to be changed for the Fed's to assume back the regulatory authority
and no amount of political soundbites and word of mouth changes that.

But one thing I do know is people also vote with their feet.

Opposite here in Utah , I have to pass an emissions test ,but they did away with safety inspection ,IMO it should be the other way around , or both if it has to be that way . I have no problem not letting a vehicle back out on the road with bald tires ,and worn out brakes .

I'm of the let them design it and you modify it any way you want mindset.
most of the emissions testing is just a waste of time anyway as almost all vehicles pass
and the few that don't are usually on their end of life anyway..

if common sense prevailed regarding this stuff
they'd realize you can't make it much cleaner than it already is
and people are only going to bend over so far before they cheat
so much of the current thought amounts to an exorbitant cost for very lsmall benefit.
not unlike getting the first 50 extra horsepower out of something might cost 500 bucks,
the next 50 horsepower costs 5000
and the next 50 is going to cost 50k..
we are there with emissions.

Emissions aren't required in all of Utah, just the areas with the worst pollution problems. ;)

I'm sure most do pass , three years ago I did not ,and it was an ordeal . I had a CEL that I repaired ,but unknown to me at the time , we have those monitors that have to clear , and if you have two or more it doesn't pass here in Utah , well I had four . There is no way to clear them expect miles ,and key cycles . I was unable to get enough miles on it before my registration was due ,had to get a wavier from the county to register the truck ,had a trip planned with the fifth wheel . Anyway two of the four cleared at around 500 miles ,the other two hung on for nearly 1500 miles . When I was at the county emissions I was told they have seen some of these Cummins take 2000 miles to clear the monitors to pass emissions .

Unfortunately Davis County is not one of them .:( I believe Weber county next door does not require emission testing , at least they didn't used to . Know a local guy that told me he takes his stuff off , and on to pass emissions , I can't imagine going thru that every year .

See issue 127 page 95 for more info on monitors. They can be very hard to complete. I'm glad I got the 67A recall done for the extended warranty, but it would have been much easier had I thought to get the smog test done first before the recall flash wiped out all the monitors.

They are very hard , If I remember I even checked in with you on my monitors . I did several drive cycles that were recommended , even got a flash done by the dealer . Nothing worked except miles ,and miles .

So you are saying after the 67a recall you had some monitors that had to clear to pass emissions ?

Some of the reasons I have yet to get that recall ,one is the issues they seem to be popping up ,and the fact is the warranty worth the problems ,and having to deal with them ,sure if get some issues that are covered on that warranty say a couple years down the road , thats pretty much a given you were going have those problems anyway ,now the warranty would make sense . Problem with some , is you get the warranty ,and don't make it home before they get a CEL ,now you got to deal with that , and on top of that the monitors for emissions.

Seems to me ,there is no good solution here on that recall , appears to be quite the gamble at best . There's you ,and have had no problems ,others that don't make it home . If I do it ,for sure it will be right after I have had my yearly emissions test . Then I got a year to deal with the issues if they happen .
