The filter is a cake walk even stock, once you get a long frog-sticker(slotted screwdriver) and a nice dead blow hammer. Just keep tapping the filter until it breaks loose.
Installation is a snap.

When you say you were able to keep it at 60-65 up steep grades, I'm almost able to do it now bone stock. What did that trailer weigh? Bumper pull or gooseneck/5th wheel?
What transmission fluid are you using?
