    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 0217 overheating code??????

Anybody ever got a 0217 overheating code when the engine is not overheated and runs great? It felt like the trans downshifted and the rpm went up but turning off the engine and restarting stopped that and everything seems normal now.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 1693 and 0217 codes

My truck sits quite a bit between trips and today I was driving it and got on it pretty hard. When I let off the throttle it seemed to downshift or unlock the torque converter and shifted strange. When I stopped at a light I turned it off and started it again and it ran and shifted normal. I...

    California emissions

I live in Oregon and had the dealer do a search for the CTD 3500 truck I want and some come up with California emissions and others Federal emissions package. What does the California emission package involve or affect on the Cummins? Would you go for the Federal or California package or does it...

    window stickers

Does anyone know if it is possible to download from the Internet the window stickers for 2006 trucks if you know the VIN?

    06 no-drill 5 wheel hitch

I'm considering replacing my 02 with a 06 3500 4x4 and talked to my hitch guy about how they mount a Reese 5th wheel hitch on the new frames. He said Reese has a no drill mount kit that has a plate that fastens on the frame with a "u bolt" type of setup. It sounds easier to install to me but I...

    Bad Lift Pump Results

I've read alot about lift pump problems and on a 2nd gen. with a vp44 a failing lift pump can kill the expensive vp44 but what will a bad lift pump on 3rd gen. cause? Just a poor or non running truck or can it damage something on these trucks too? I'm thinking about buying a 2006.

how to disengage 4wd in low range

I'm thinking about buying a 2006 and was curious about the same thing. I remember seeing threads long ago on earlier trucks and how to disengage the front axle while in 4wd low, seems to me it was electrically operated or something. How about some new responses here to get this thread going? Thanks

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Daytime Running Light Question

I didn't know there was a capibility or option for daylight running lights on these trucks. Is there something in my truck that would allow that (see signature)? or do I have to wire up a kit?

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 47RE 2nd Gear TC lockup?

    3. 54 gears and no guages. Are you saying that as long as egt is good then the lower rpm is not "lugging"?

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 47RE 2nd Gear TC lockup?

After reading this should I be downshifting to second when pulling the 5ver up a steep grade to keep the rpm's up about 2500 or keep it in 3rd and rpm's dropping to 1800? Would I be causing damaging heat by pulling hard in 2nd since tc is unlocked? I thought it was better than running at lower...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) power rumor

Yes, I know it is how you see any fault codes in your odometer window, thanks though. Just wanted to be sure there wasn't any possibility of any truth in the legendary urban wife's monkey business that this would temporarily change computer settings to increase power (I doubted it). Thanks for...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Why is white smoke coming from my breather tube?

Mine does this where I quite often see it drifting out in front of the headlights with the breeze blowing in the right direction. I used to be concerned with this but my previous questions like yours brought answers that it was normal. I always thought mine looked excessive but now I ignore it...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) power rumor

I've heard a rumor that I am doubting. When you cycle the key on and off 3 times to display any fault codes I was told that this programs the computer to boost your horsepower for that starting cycle. Anyone know what somebody might have been referring to or if there is any truth to this?

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) driving downhill with auto trans in low

On very steep mountain backroads (forest service gravel roads etc. )where it is necessary to keep speed under 10 mph is it okay to crawl down (empty truck, no towing) in low so that I don't have to ride the brakes all the way for miles (1-6 miles)? transmission holds speed down and no sign of...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission chirp/creak/squeak

I have searched threads and may have the chirp in the pillar/cowl area referred to in the tsb for trucks through 2001. Mine is a 2002 though. Before I pull the whole dash back and attempt the procedure in that tsb I am wondering if anyone has found a miracle cure to a mysterious and VERY...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) inch torque wrench

I am going to buy an inch/lb torque wrench so I can adjust the bands on my trans. My question is how much should I expect to spend and on what type, clicker, etc? I know buying the best would answer my question but for as little use as the tool would get I would like to get something accurate...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission There are only a couple of questions

my favorite was my 97 moss green. i would still have it if i hadn't totaled it. my BIG problem with the 2002 is the chirpy type squeak that others have also reported. i've greased, hammered, chiseled all to no avail.

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission There are only a couple of questions

just wondering what you mean about loving it better than 3rd gen? I've got a 2002 2nd gen and was considered getting an 05 but have pretty much decided to keep what I've got though i'm wondering why you feel the 2nd gen. is better than 3rd?

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) True Flow air filters

I see a air filter from "True Flow" that I hadn't heard of before. Any info for or against? It supposedly is a 2 part foam filter that is over 12 times thicker than paper. It is washable but I don't know if you oil it, if so it may not be what I want.
