    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Burned brakes

thank you. I'll take a look. Might be a good time to replace pads/rotors anyway. The comment about the bearings is a good idea. BTW the back brakes are drums.

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Burned brakes

coming down a steep grade the other day, I smelled that the brakes burned. This is the first time this has ever happened on this truck. I pulled over and let 'em cool down for 1/2 hour. brakes seemed fine thereafter. should I have the brakes checked out by a mechanic? What are the potential...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 47RE stuck in 1st. Try this first.

Are the particles large, like size of a grain of salt or larger, or is it more like fine almost powder-like metal? I have heard that if If it's very fine that is normal wear, but large particles could mean something more serious. A transmission expert can look at the metal shavings and...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) power steering fluid

on my 2001 the old power steering fluid needs to be flushed out and new fluid added. I have read many posts about how to flush the fluid and which fluid to use. Additionally I've read a TSB which says to use this or that fluid. Anyone have any opinion which is best: ATF4 or synthetic P. S...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 47RE shift sequence

my trans (47RE) seems to shift 5 times. acceleration from a stop to 60 mph is this what I'm actually feeling 1... 2... 3. . lock... OD? Also, cruising at around 30-35 mph the trans seems to go between lock and 3 back and fourth for no reason, or is it going from lock and OD? is this normal?

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 47RE won't shift out of 1st. Fixed!

have the same problem with my '01. (wont shift out of first) pumping the throttle coaxes it to shift eventually after revving high rpm's. . replaced the speed sensor on the trans and did not fix the problem. Today I did try unpluggin the relay in the fuse box, and now the shifting seems to work...

Archived truck takes a long time to shift out of first gear

Replaced the speed sensor today as that was the easiest thing to do first... did not fix the problem. I'm wondering if I should take it to the dealer or transmission shop and have them check it out or just go ahead and replace the governor pressure solenoid, and filter and adjust bands while I'm under...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 47re shifting problem-HELP!

I'm curious if changing sensor or transducer fixed the problem. I have an almost similar problem with my truck. I just changed out the SPEED SENSOR but that did not fix it.

Archived truck takes a long time to shift out of first gear

Thanks Missouri Mule. Tried that first thing this morning. Started out with shifter in first, let the rpm's build up, then manually shift up to second, then D. I could not hear or feel the gears change, BUT after going through that sequence, now in "Drive" the trans FINALLY shifted up from low...

yesterday everything was fine... started down the road this morning and the truck wont shift past first gear (4sp auto trans) I drove it a while before it FINALLY shifted up to higher gears. Come to a stop, then the same thing again after acceleration. So it needs to run in first gear too long...
