2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 4-wheel drive not going into 2H right away

A buddy of mine called me regarding his 99 Dodge 4x4 with the cummins that I talked him into buying. His question is regarding shifting from 4H to 2H while moving. He can shift into 4H from 2H and it engages fine, but when shifting to 2H from 4H it does not disengage for a few minutes. He...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission rear end whine

I listened to it for 100's of miles, until it drove me nuts and I turned the music up nice and loud. I was making a run up to Washington State and I started to hear a whining sound. To me it sounds like it's the rear end. I narrowed it down to only happening when I'm cruising at between 1800...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) looking for overflow valve repair kit part #

Overflow valve I called Piers and paid $55 plus shipping (3 day UPS). Better than $85 plus 8. 25% sales tax. Readying myself for the big move from Los Angeles to Montesano Washington. After 25 years I've had enough and I'm vacating.

Piers? Contact info? I'm in the market for a new OF valve and the best price I can find is $85. I'm presently in the L. A area and if anyone knows where I can get one at a decent price please post it. If Piers is still the best, how can I contact them to order one and get it shipped...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission A mechanic in the Delta area of N. CA?

I posted a question regarding a good Cummins mechanic in the area of Stockton, etc. A good buddy of mine just purchased a 99 Ram 2500, 4x4, quad cab with about 74,000 miles on it. He's as green as they come and I'm trying to help him out. There is no record of the valves being adjusted and the...

A buddy of mine that lives on Bethel Island is looking at a 97 with a cummins and an automatic that is for sale. It has 72,000 miles and he says it looks real clean. He has not asked about maintenance records yet. I had him ask the owner about a few items that concern me. He has not changed the...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Overflow Valve

I just called Valencia Dodge, they want $132 and some change. I called United truck parts in Sun Valley, they want $89. 70. After reading the posts regarding the part for $20, I was floored when the parts guy at Dodge told me $132. I think I'll call a few more and if I don't find it for a...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Overflow Valve

I am on the phone with Dodge and they cannot find the overflow valve in their parts catalog. I don't have my manual with me so I can't give him a better clue than "it's part of the fuel system". Does anyone out there have the part number or a better clue for the parts counter? Thank you, Steve

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Up/Down or In/Out Steering movement

Not sure if this is going to make sense but there is an Up/Down or In/Out feeling of movement in the steering column. Example: I'm stopped at a light. When I accelerate to take off it feels as if the steering is moving towards me. Going over bumps I can feel movement in the steering wheel...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Ticking between 1300 & 1600 rpm

1300-1600 tick...... Is this something that I should take care of right away or can I take care of it next time I have to take my truck in for something else. I would rather group the maintenance together so I can do it all in one trip. I have to rent a car and between that and the work being...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Ticking between 1300 & 1600 rpm

In medium traffic, pushing the pedal down slightly to keep up with the flow of traffic. Between 1300 and 1600 rpm I get a ticking sound. I noticed it years ago and have asked a few mechanics about it, but I have never been able to get an answer. It has slowly increased in loudness and it's...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) PCM replaced for no reason?

The manual says; "When the fuel temperature is below 40 degrees F, the sensor allows current to flow to the built-in heater element to warm the fuel. When the fuel temperature is above 80 degrees F, the sensor stops current flow to the heater element (circuit is open). Voltage to operate the...
