I've pretty much decided that the sport headlight conversion is going to be done on my '00 truck. The mechanical swap looks to be pretty straight forward but what have people done to convert the wiring? Do you have to obtain the quad headlamp harness - wiring & relay - from a wrecked truck or can I cut & splice into the existing harness on my truck?

I want to get the maximum benefit and if it requires the factory harness I'm willing to go that route. I just don't want to end up with a hack job that uses Scotch-locks or some other half-a** device.

Any suggestions/advice/lessons learned?

Thanks,
Brian

Brian, I used the special Brite-Box (part # 4-2-7+4) when converting my '98. 5 SPORT to the '99+ Sport headlights. I also added a set of PIAA 9004 and 9007 Platinum Series Super White bulbs. The light output is AWESOME now! Can you say daylight? #ad

Hey Brian, I just did this to my truck, got a good deal on the lights to at our lacal dodge dealer, about 140 a piece, I did it different, I used the hight beams off the inside light to energize the high and low beams for the outside, I also grounded everything to the frame, can you say daytime. My 6 Eats V8's,
Am I reading your post correctly - you're running dual filament bulbs - 9004's - in both sockets? Do you run just one low beam filament in each headlight on low beam and then 2 low beam & two hi beam filaments in each headlight on hi beam?

Sounds impressive - I may have to see how you did it.

Brian

Brian, I believe the low-beam filament on the outside bulbs (9007) is incorrectly aligned, so it is not used on a stock Dodge Sport.
There may be a DOT rule that you can't run all four low filaments simultaneously.
So what I did was to energize a relay from the inner high beams (9004) and use that relay to power only the high beam filaments in the outside (9007) bulbs.
So in low, you only get the 9004s. In high you get 9004s and 9007s but never two filaments in one bulb. I believe that would lead to overheating of bulbs and connectors, despite what Britebox says.
BTW Sylvania,GE, Wagner and others now have xenon-filled 9004s and 9007s for around $10 which is not bad. PIAAs are about 10x more I hear.

Adiabatic,
I'm one of the guys who thinks the PIAA's are crap - I bought a pair, tried them (ok, only one) and returned them for full refund.
I have looked at the new GE & Sylvania HO bulbs that claim to be 20% brighter but they have the same wattage rating as a standard 9004. I think I'll save my money on bulbs until my stock 9004's crap out. I may try the 9007 HO bulbs when I do the headlight conversion.

Brian

On the Sport headlights the 9007s (dual filament) are used at the outboard, low/high beam position. The 9004s are used at the inboard, high beam position (I know these are also dual filament bulbs however, this is how Dodge elected to configure this). With the special Brite-Box, the low beam filaments of the 9007s are illuminated while using the headlight low beam position. The low AND high beam filaments of the 9007s as well as the high beam filament of the 9004s are simultaneously illuminated. With all of my bulbs being PIAA Super Whites, it REALLY makes a big difference! #ad
