Do I need a "boost elbow" for my truck or will it throw a code if the boost is raised? I am ordering gauges, [boost-Egt. -fuel press. w/ isolater] and am wondering. I have a Bully Dog Torque Dog and thats all.

Thanks in advance!

I believe your Torque Dog does act as a boost fooler. Didn't it come with a boost elbow? If not you will be limited to about 20 psi boost by your wastegate. You could use more. Something like 30 psi. The boost elbow will do just that for you.

I bought the Bully Dog "used" and it didn't come with a boost elbow. I asked the guy I got it from if it came with one and he said no. I looked on the Bully Dog Torque Dog pdf install instructions and in the packing list it shows boost elbow. I was wondering if someone thats purchased one new could tell me if it does come with it. If I use a boost fooler elbow I would want a 0-60 psi gauge instead of the lower range gauge.

Thanks

Richard

Just for clarification: the boost fooler is incorporated in the electronics & clips voltage from the MAP sensor. The boost elbow is a little brass fitting that screws into the compressor housing with a tube that runs to the wastegate controller diaphragm. It has a restriction to limit the pressure to that diaphragm so as to keep the wastegate closed longer. If you plan on more BOMBs the higher range boost gauge is a good idea. I'm using a Westach 50 psi unit. Your stock HX 35 turbo should be held to 35 psi max.

Darkhorse; The "boost elbow" I had on my '96 was a 1/8npt x 1/4" hose barb fitting that screwed into the rear portion if the fuel pump. Is there one for the VP44 or do I have to go to the turbo housing as you stated?

Thanks

Richard

I think you are a bit confused on the newer trucks. Your boost fooler for the 96 is not the same as what you need to do here. The 24v trucks have two over boost preventers. One is the waste gate on the turbo and one is ECM controlled defueling. The bully dog box you got will take care of the ECM so what you need to worry about is the waste gate on the turbo. Look at the turbo and there should be a hose running from the back of the turbo to a little fitting right where the output to the intercooler is hooked up. The fitting you need to replace is the little elbow. You should be able to get one from Bullydog or another memeber, I gave my extra away already so I can not help.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU... ... I see the light.

I will be ordering the "correct" boost fitting now.

Thanks

Richard
