My dad has an 03, and it began stalling at stop signs, he would then have to restart it. This problem has progressed to a heavy hesitation like it is starving of fuel, and this seems to happen more at 30-40 mph. Had it to a dealer and they checked all the codes and said something about a code for a bad connection, and they went through all of the harnesses. What should we do now, they changed nothing.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Me Too, well sort of, Fred Swanson if your listening, it did it again with your EZ box on '3'.

Mine will die when starting, turn the key, it fires right up, then the RPM fluctuates high, then 500 RPM, then dies. There is never any issue with driveability or idle otherwise.

Take out the EZ and no trouble at all, put it in and the problem will return, just maybe not right away.

I wish I had time to check further, but I am checking anyway. The problem appears to be the EZ is causing the fuel pressure to appear too high at startup / low RPM, to which the ECM/Pump reduces pressure and then there is not enough rail pressure to run, when it returns there is a slight surge but the RPM is reduced and the engine stalls.

The troubling concern is that its not consistant, but definetely related to the EZ, and may only be on '3'. I'm going to go to '2' and '4' and check some more.

Rocket, yours also sounds like a filter too, mine has been changed twice now, didn't need it this time, but I changed it anyway.

Fred - On the road. It is still doing it occasionaly. I have it on '1' and it happens so it is not the EZ itself, but it only does this with the EZ. It runs perfectly otherwise.

Fuel Filter

So is the consensus the fuel filter on this one. Why is it sensitive like this, the truck only has 5,000 on it. I know it should have been changed by now, but not changing it causes this?

Thanks,

Nick

The fuel filter would be the easiest and most obvious thing to try. It should last longer than 5,000 miles but who knows. Maybe your dad got into some dirty fuel. Let us know how you make out.

Fred - I'm in North Pole, AK, never a problem one, I just need to bump the pedal when starting and it fires right up every time, but it will still do the start and die thing if I don't and its warm.

BTW all, I took the Cassier Highway this time, Fantastic drive, lots of dirt road but a great drive, spent three days there.

If it started correctly every time, it wouldn't be wierd now would it?? I never had this prior to the EZ, and doesn't happen every time, hmmm.

And for those who Tow, USE THE BOOST ELBOW, I am running at Max GCWR and the Boost at 28 - 34lbs drops the EGT by 250 - 350 degrees! It will pull on 'EZ4' with max throttle, 7% hills, 20,000 lbs GCW , no *****, without the elbow the temp is 1200+ in no time, with it, it is 900-1050 at 2100 - 2400 RPM, 5th gear (6spd).

I still very, very happy, wierd things or not.

DM.

Just got a call and now he is on his way up to the lake, and having a hard time keeping it running. Any more thoughts, I'll post if the dealer hes stopping at says anything.

I had one with contaminated fuel, cleaned everything out changed filter etc, ended up replacing lift and injection pump 2k miles later. Same symptoms you are describing:(
