03 HO smokes -- No BOMBS?

Hello all,



A buddy of mine bought a 03 2500 (HO / 48re / 4X4 / 3. 73 / QC) in November or December & has about 15K on it now. Good looking truck. He has been pleased with the mileage & performance, usually getting around 17-18 mixed driving. His stock truck can walk away from my stock first gen 12V with out too much trouble from a stop light with no smoke while I leave a good haze.



Well this morning he managed to line up with a guy in a gas Chevy a light. My buddy faired quite well in the little run but to my surprise he left an impressive amount of smoke. Not like a 12V, but a good cloud. When we got to work I let him about it. He said that since the last oil change (3rd oil change) he noticed the truck smokes a little & his mileage has dropped off. He has not noticed a loss of power & the guy in the Chevy must feel the same way right now. The truck has been serviced at a local dealer.



I asked if he had changed his air filter yet & he hasn’t. His filter minder shows no signs of needing a filter change.



Now for the questions. Wouldn’t he have noticed a loss in power if the filter were dirty? Is it a good idea to schedule a filter change based on the filter minder position? Would the dealer have performed a service without his knowledge, like a reflash of the ECM?

one person on here reported seeing smoke and it was a faulty computer tell him to bring it in. find this post on here and let them know what happened to one of your buddies truck.

Mine started smoking quite a bit and quickly got worse to the point it was rolling out large clouds of grayish smoke with rich diesel smell.



I took it to the dealer and they ended up replacing the ECM which pretty much cured it. It still smokes more than it did before but nothing nearly as bad as before.



Look for my post titled "Uh oh, lots of blue smoke" in this forum. It might be back a page or two.
