03 Won't stay running

You'll have to excuse me if this is a well known problem, I am a first gen guy and am just trying to help a friend. He has an 03 that all of a sudden started quitting on him randomly. Hot/cold doesn't seem to matter, nor does amount of time running. He replaced the fuel filter, no help. He contacted a local diesel wrench who told him to replace the fuel pump. He did that, and it also didn't help. Any ideas of the problem or what to check would be appreciated!

Anymore symptoms than just won't run? Does it quit under load, while idleing? What codes did it pull? (get codes by turning key on off three times, then leaving on, codes will flash through the odometer) Does it have the fuel pump in the tank, on the back of the filter still, or aftermarket? Any other work done to it?

Does it have a security system that can lock out the ign? Does it have a chip key?

Happened to me, replace the Fuel Control Actuator, (FCA )



Simple job, thought is was the fuel pump again (on # 3 now. 185K miles). FCA was $150 or so
