I just had to register the 1993 in my sig. I know that is a used vehicle, but I will tell you what happened. I had the truck weighed, and pulled into the inspection area. The DMV guy came out and looked at the motor. On my truck, the emissions sticker that is usually on the timing gear cover was not there. He made a note on his paper that said the emissions sticker was not present. Then I had to call D/C and have them send me proof that the vehicle met emissions standards. Im still waiting for the letter.

Be careful. The DMV never seems to be too aware of what is going on, and if you fight hard enough you will probably get the answer you want from the local office. Then they will send the paperwork up to Sacramento, it will be reviewed and rejected. The people in Sacramentoo seem to know what they are doing, and it may be hard to get anything done after they "officially" reject your application. My . 02, the p. o. box thing works in AZ also. Ryan

My truck has been flagged by Cali DMV and can never be registered here; 7500 miles or not because it was brought here with less than 7500. I am currently seeking advice from an attorney.

Will probably reg it with relatives name on title out of state. I know that cali has the narc your neighbor campaign for out of state licenses so I figure if it is in my wifes name and here sisters and I get pulled over. . its not my truck officer.

Anyhow i will update further when new info arises.

Happy Turkey Day all... except that damn DMV lady that has turned my new truck purchase into a huge headache. Ok Im done.

You appear to be claiming that you have accomplished something that no one else has. With all due respect, if you want to contribute to this thread please provide details about your situation that explain how you were able to accomplish something that no one else has. Did your truck have more or less than 7500 miles at the time of purchase? Was your truck previously registered in California? Did you just move to California from some other state? Are you a California resident that first used an out of state address until your truck accumulated over 7500 miles and then "transferred ownership" to your California address? Was this just a "dumb luck" oversight by AAA and/or the DMV?

Of course, if you are just gloating in disrespect to the misfortune of others, then that is an entirely different story!

The deal is if it is in state for more 30 days you are required to regester it in Ca.
So if one of your neighbors does turn you in and they can prove that it has been here more than 30 days then trouble again! And if DMV gets wind with the flag on the vin that ain't going to be pretty!

If that did happen it was a BIG mistake. They have guidelines that they have to follow and they know the laws. Checked with a friend at DMV and they said AAA can not do new vehicle reg. How many miles were on it?Was it in your name when you brought it in?

OK, Sorry I should have offered some details... I purchased the truck new in AZ at a time (in 03') when the H. O. model was not available in CA. I used a friends address in AZ to register the truck there, in my name. I am a contractor and told the dealership that I was working on a big project in AZ and was living there on a temp. basis. After about 4 months and 8,000+ miles I took the paperwork to my local AAA and switched the registration and plates over to CA. All went smooth with the exception of the personal plate I wanted... MYLILHO... was informed in a letter from the DMV that it was unacceptable due to vulgarity or some nonsense.

My final conversation and outcome with the dealer was summarized on page 5. As for DC I called a customer service number I located on TDR but hung up after being on hold for 25 minutes and not talking to a human?

I bought my new '07 CTD from Dave Smith. Although all CTD's are 50 state compliant,a Calif emissions sticker must be on the front driver side of the valve cover. Apparently all the Ca trucks are emission inspected, while only random are inspected for non-Ca vehicles. If you buy a used CTD with 7500 miles or more out of state, you can bring it in and register it at the DMV or AAA. AAA can't register a vehicle purchased new from a dealer out of state. Bunch of CARB crap. No wonder legal residents are leaving and being replaced with illegal people.

I thought that the new "2004. 5 600" was 50 state compliant??? If it is, why would you need a Cali sticker if it meets 50 state standards??

I am confused too. What is the build date??

I think they look at the truck as a 04 as did the smog guy when he did my truck . I think some documentation from Dodge/Cummins is in order

I would drive back to Vegas and find the first "Mail Boxes Etc" and get a PO box. They have a real street address and not a PO number. Then hit the Nevada DMV and do your paperwork. The hell with the BOZOS at the Calif DMV! After you rack on 7500 miles, they will have to register your truck. That IS the way around Arnolds law. :p :p :p :p 7500 miles will come really quick. Better yet, just leave the Nevada plates on until they expire!

Good Luck

California:-{} Nevada

I did the same thing, I bought a new truck from AZ, to get the HO version. It is a FED standard, no CARB. It also came without a CAT.

What I did was use an address of a friend, bought insurance from that state, after eight or nine months I went to the Peoples Republic DMV of California. A worker came out and looked at that sticker, I don't know why, but at that point I was feeling uneasy. She asked a few questions, I played dumb and she said OK.

Yes, that should be interesting... although I was told by a smog check guy, that as long as it has a federal sticker (which mine has), it should be fine.

I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Bob, did you get your smog check yet? I need to get mine done this week... my truck came from the factory with no cat, wonder if it will pass???

I have an Uncle who took his Corvette to CA when he moved from here in AK and kept his AK plates on his car for almost three years before a local LEO stopped him. He got a fix it ticket about the plates. When at DMV he explained he spent his time between his two homes, the one in Orange County and here in AK. They wanted him to register the car in CA,he wouldn't pass the smog test since he had the standard fed smog and he didn't want to add the extra smog crap to his car, besides the $600 or $700 bucks to do this. He got around the issue stating he spends most of his time up here rather then CA and drives to AK rather then fly. He hasn't stepped foot in AK since 1996 and gets his mail forwarded to him from a local mail service with a street address. Don't know if I've made any since or not,or if this will help you. My uncle has saved a bundle of cash getting around the CA emissions nightmare, besides saving the bucks on registering in CA with all the taxes.
