Average milage on the return trip was 20. 9 MPG I went 660 miles on the first tank of the trip (Denver to Hatch NM) Oo. Oo. Oo.

Glad to hear the good news Klenger!! I too have good news to report on the flash. I just posted in the other thread but feel it is relevant in this one too. My truck routinely got over 20mpg @ 60mph, that being said, here are my results so far, strictly by the overhead display. On the way home from the dealership, I had the truck at 75mph on an 8 mile flat stretch of highway. Overhead stuck at 19. 9, usually on this same stretch was in the 17's at this speed. Also, noticed the slight ping my engine had is now gone. By the time I got home which involved some idle time at stop lights and some city traffic the display read 21. 4. I will fill up tomorrow and re-post hand calc figures in about a week for stop and go city driving. Up to this point, mileage in town has varied between 15 and 17 mpg depending how often I got after it. So far I am very pleased with the flash. :D

Okay, bear with me because I still am new to the diesel performance scene and I have a question regarding this topic. I have an '04. 5 600 and am experiencing a lot of fuel mileage problems like most of the members in this thread. I have the 48re and 4. 10's and I have just added 35' BFG Mud Terrains to improve my fuel mileage. If the dealer decides to flash my truck on Tuesday when it goes in for service, should I see the fuel mileage that you guys are getting with the 48re and 3. 73's? I would imagine so because the 35's should have balanced out the 4. 10's. Any help would be appreciated.

BlueRam2500: Bigger tires do not always help milage. They have more rolling resistance because of wider thread width, have more rotating mass, and give the truck a higher profile causing more wind resitance.

BlueRam2500,

I have the 48-RE and 3. 73 gears AND am running 315 BFGs (34. 6" diameter).

I am getting between 15. 5 and 19. 8 hwy mpgs depending on driving conditions, speed, wind (as klenger noted above, wind effects are more noticeable on mpgs), and throttle input (*grin*). In the city, you will better my mpgs, as the 315s and 3. 73 in stop and go driving hurt me some.

Freeway, I will better your mpg simply from rpm advantages. I think the 35s will help with the rpms at freeway speeds, but you will still need to keep your speed down (60-65 mph?) if you really want to see good mpg figures.

And again, I do know that the 315s I have are hurting my mpg ratings some, but I need the height/tread pattern for some of the places I use my truck... I just keep 'em pumped up (60-65 psi) on the highway, and they do what they are gonna do...

Good luck!

DGStrate, do you have any motor work done to your truck?

BlueRAM2500,

Nope - I am totally stock except for the 315 BFGs...

I hope to soon have gauges, but that will be it until warranty expires.

I have about 7300 miles on the rig now...

edit:

BTW, do you have a long or short bed?

Prelimary Flash Results

Had the flash done today, and so far the overhead is reading a constant 19. 7. Pre-flash was 15. 8.

When the overhead read 15. 8 hand calc'd mileage came out to 16 . 6.

Have not driven enough yet to have a hand calc'd report post-flash, but I HOPE the flash will prove to have done more than make the computer indicate good numbers. More details to come.

I had it done yesterday in Cheyenne then drove 250 miles R/T @ about 80. Overhead reports 19. 5 - don't really mean anything but I should have some hand calc numbers soon.

I have heard enough. I am going to get the flash on Wednesday. Since I drive about 2500 miles a month, I should have some results to post relatively soon.

Had mine done the 5th of Sept, The TSB18-037-04 and TSB18-034-97 was listed on the work order as being done. Don't know what the TSB18-034-97 is, but milage improved from 15. 3MPG before doing the TSB to 18. 9 on last fillup putting 230 miles on the truck yesterday empty. Look like it help the truck empty, looking forward to checking it out pulling a load maybe this week. will report back when I make a pull.

I have a quad cab long bed. I am also going to do gauges soon also. Which ones are you going to buy?

BlueRam2500,

I have been considering the Stewart-Warner. You can see a pic of them at:

http://www.enterpriseengine.com by clicking Services link and then clicking the link at the bottom of the page that says "Click here to see our products". I also like the Autometer and DiPricol. Are you lookin' at any specifics? PM me your email address and we can compare notes... That way we do not clog up this thread with our personal discussions...

Cheers!

I called my dealer and scheduled a remote starter install and also asked that the TSB be performed as well. I told them that I was getting white smoke at startup (especially this morning it was chilly out there) and I asked if there would be any charge for the TSB. They told me that they would determine if the TSB was necessary first and then decide if there would be a charge.

Do they normally charge for these things or is this something that is covered by the warranty?

Thanks!

My E-Mail address is -- email address removed --.

As far as a charge for the TSB, I don't believe they can charge because the trucks are new and still under warranty. I will let you know after I get mine back tomorrow or Wednesday. I am taking it in for the TSB and for them to recalibrate my speedo.

I have read the TSB, It is my understanding if you have a smoking problem, or fuel mileage concern, and it meets the requirements for the flash. Also I have been told that some dealers, service centers will let you read the TSB if you ask them. It is my understanding an authorized charge to DC is available so the dealer can get paid for their service.

Ya don't want the duramax, I tow with a friend that has a duramax chiped up and all the extras. His mileage is no better that my stock 600 and the poser is about the same. I am going to install a Afe filter tomorrow and we are going to tow our boats (approx 10,000. lbs) this weekend. I'll report on the results

Just made my FLASH appointment for next week. Right now I do 50/50 mix highway and city. I am getting (hand calc) 14. 5 mpg consecutively.

I am also asking they enable the high idle. The service rep had no idea what I was talking about but she said she would look into it. Is their an "official" name for enabling this?

Ok folks I just got off the phone with the dealer and he said my Truck's VIN doesn't meet the TSB requirements for the milage update? So there are 04. 5 trucks out there that can not get this flash? Why would they only improve the MPG on some of the trucks having a problem? Anyone know the answer?

Rhinohd:

What is the build date of your engine (Found on the sticker on the driver's side of the valve cover)?

Mine falls into the date range and I have an apt scheduled for this Saturday.
