I just installed gauges on my 04. 5 and noticed something strange..... Being used to the old 24v lift pumps I expected my fuel pressure to be around 10-15psi but instead was shucked to see only 7 psi at idle... ... Ive heard that the new trucks use a low pressure gear pump indtead of the old Carter vane pumps... Is this true??... . Does n e one know what the fuel pressures r supposed to be on the new engines??

Where did you install the sending unit? I am looking to install a pressure guage also. I was planning on adding metal fuel filter spin on that has place for sending unit.

I am also curious to see what other say on the pressure. I run a TST on 3/3 am wondering if the stock pump can support higher settings.

I used a Stewart Warner fuel pressure gauge and a mechanical isolater... . I put a tapped banjo bolt on the hard line going to the injecction pump from the filter housing (hope to have pics soon) and ran a line up to the firewall where I mounted the isolater... ... . I was also wondering if n e one else has experienced a faint buzzing sound comming from the right side of the truck at around 1300 rpm when in neutral... ... Ive been thinking of putting on a box but am unsure of which to get... the new Edge Juice or the Powermax CR..... I know the Powermax is a proven performer but I heard somewhere that the Edge box modifies timing. . duration AND pressure... . Can n e one confirm or deny this plz?? I am also looking at clutches... N e input would be greatly appreciated

Stop running the truck at 1300 RPM in neutral. ;)

The new Edge Juice w/attitude does modify timing, duration and pressure. :D

I had also read in a much earlier thread when this new design came out, that the pressure was intentional not specified by Dodge to avoid some of the ealier issues they had. It was also noted that the new system could go as low as zero pressure and work fine - that the small pump on the fuel filter was almost unnecessary - accept as a priming pump.

I'm wanting to get a fuel pressure guage with mine when I go to order the boost and pyro, have any of you guys ever seen over 15? Will I be good with an autometer 15psi guage or should I go to the 100? My truck is an 03 by the way.

I have a chrome cover tapped with an isolator and a Dipricol fuel pressure gauge. At idle i'm seeing 7-8#. On a hard long pull with the fiver on I can pull it down to about 5. 5#. Very steady, not a lot of fluctuation. Sarge

Over 15lbs is not a good thing,...

There is a fuel pressure valve that from what I've been told is set in the 15 to 16lbs range from the factory. It's their way of monitoring if your putting fuel pressure effecting devices on the truck that could cause serious damage. And a service mgr friend told me that it was a STAR ONLY authorization replaceable part so your truck would be red tagged in the DCX warranty system. If you value your warranty, then don't go there.

i just put a fuel pressure gauge on my 04. 0. it is tapped into the steel fuel filter cover from genos. i get 5-1/2 psi consistently. i've never seen it drop. no isolator - direct tube.

05 Fuel Pressure

I too just installed gauges this pass weekend and my fuel pressure at idle is 7. 5 PSI. I can pull it down to 3 PSI at WOT. This is a stock truck except for and AFE air filter. I wonder if my Edge EZ boz will pull it down even lower once installed... . any ideas?

Keith,

I have a 2004. 5 using TST on 3/3. I have ordered fuel pressure guage to monitor my current pressure. Is there any concern about hurting injector pump if the pressure pulls to low? Should we be adding pumps to keep pressure at a given level? I was concerned about running the system to low on pressure and causing some failure that may be expensive. The new Fass pump looked like a possible choice? Any thoughts from anyone appreciated.

Jeff

At this point, I have not seen a failure due to low fuel pressure, but the trucks will miss, run rough and be down on power.

Obviously, we have our own ideas (and kit) for the 03+ fuel system.

What is the idea? kit? I am new to the diesel world trying to have some safe fun. Love my truck and TST made it better.

Thanks, Jeff
