I got the truck back on thursday morning!

When I picked the truck up from the dealer it hadnt moved from the bay it was setting in when I dropped it off. I was glad the truck never set outside with all of my toys still on it. I signed the paperwork... paid my bill for the transmission service and changing the TQ converter and the second gear band billet lever..... and pulled it out of the shop. I made it to the street and stomped on it and heard an intercooler boot pop off. I turned around and got it repaired! I towed "Grandma's Car" back home on a 2 wheel dolly for the first 300 miles. I put on 500 miles on it then hooked to a 35' (10,500 lb) 5th wheel and delivered it to Illinois this morning. That makes 1,250 miles on the new motor. It seems to run good...

The new torque converter is alot tighter feeling than the stock unit as far as the fluid coupling, shifts are much more positive feeling. The pull is awesome in 4th gear lock up! Gorend Bros makes a hell of a converter!

The only other issue I have found is a leak in the turbo oil return line. I have an appointment at my local dealer to have it inspected... . Then it's getting a 4,670 mile round trip to Portland, Oregon to deliver a new 5th wheel.

I was planning to buy an new travel trailer and have a nice Tow rig to pull it Planning on buying a new 3500 SRW but wanted to wait till the new Alumiuim transmission to see how it holds up. But now after reading this and other problems Heck I might as well get a Ford with the 6. 0. I might as well save all that money and Just buy a new Toyota and spent the money on hote rooms and room service. Pr wait to see what they come up with in their new diesel in a year or two.

the remainder of the 100,000 mile waranty. 12,000 miles left :{

That is total crapola. I'm sure it's true, but it is criminal that a brand new Cummins engine doesn't come with a new Cummins warranty.

Once again DC has dished out another s**t sandwich instead of coming to the plate and servicing a repeat loyal customer. I figured things were better in the States than here in Canada but i was wrong. After waiting 2 months for a rear end for my 01. 5, and getting the ongoing ' should be in tomorrow ' answers from the dealer and customer service, i put my old reliable 96' power stroke back on the road to keep up with deliveries. I too use these trucks for commercial use. One thing i've learned, keep a spare truck ready to roll cause you'll likely need it. I am only days away from ordering another work truck and no matter what brand i go with ( troubles with all of them ) I know I will have a back up for when DC, FORD or GM lets me down like they all seem to do no matter how many vehicles you have purchased from them in the past or what you do with them ( making your living with them). A friend of mine who works in the automotive industry manufacturing parts for all the ' big three' tells me the single biggest question asked when developing a new product is ' will it make it till the end of the warranty period???' Sad state of affairs if you ask me.

Well now, WHAT THE HECK KIND OF A DEAL IS THAT???!!! All of the ag tractor and other equipment manufacturers have separate warranties on their aftermarket power units. Check out GM or Ford for their high perf. crate engines etc. All have warranties!!

If I purchaced the engine with my own money it would have a 100k warranty. .

Since it was a warranty replacement... . it gets the ballance of the warranty!

agreed that the deal is wrong! I want a 100k service contract!

You might consider writing a nice letter (not email, an actual letter) directly to Cummins. Explain to them they you got this new engine from the dealer and they refuse to warrant it. Tell them you have faith in Cummins' quality and wonder if they might consider warranting the engine for the other 88k. Keep the letter very professional and don't complain about anything or say anything "mean spirited".

Worst they can say is "no", in which case you're no worse off than you are now.

Yep when I removed the stock manifold on my '03 it was clear Cylinder #4 and especially #5 have a tortuous exhaust route to the turbo. POC manifold design if you ask me. ATS is a major improvement.

Vaughn

What is ATS ? Thanks

you bought a truck, and they guaranteed you that you'd have a good engine in it for 100k miles... that's the contractual obligation...

be happy that the engine let go at 85k instead of 105k...

maybe put your pyro thermocouple in the #5 exhaust runner?

Batterys, tires, repairs on autps/trucks under warranty get the BALANCE of the original warranty. Been like that forever. Its not added to,its a continuation of. Cummin won't do anything about the warranty unless its BOUGHT from them. They sold the orignal motor and the replacement to D. C. with NO WARRANTY through Cummin.

I may have found the way to go here. Let me know your thoughts

I saw a feature on these trucks on television... . looks like a good idea other than the way the bed matches up is ugly... Id just be happy with an RV toter bed and loose the ferd bed. .

Would rather have the Freightliner and a Cummins!
