Just a quick question to find out if anyone knows whether you can still buy a fuel filter mounted lift pump like the oem from Cummins? I know about the retrofit, but would like to have a spare with me in case the old one dies while I'm pulling the horses/trailer in the wilds of Wyo. If so, a part number would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.

You most certainly can. Cant help you with a part number but you can get them. Buddy of mine just replaced his on side of the road on Bay City Tx. The in-tank pump I would stay away from.

I second the Walrbo from Glacier, I bet just the stock pump isn't much cheaper than the whole Walbro kit.

Im guessin a stock pump is more than the walboro kits... Heck, the whole kits is under $400.

I cant wait for the 05/06 to come out... I talked to Robert today and he said its gonna tap into the stock harness and fuel line, so if the walboro ever died (doubt it will), all you gotta do is swap a single fuel pump electrical connector and you are back on your stock pump.

do you like your fass because i have a bd power pusher pump but i am thinking of getting a fass

You can get 3 micron filters... solid pressures up to 25 psi... big lines from the tank outlet to the injection pump...

If you search, I had some pressure issues with mine due to faulty springs, but now that it has been taken care of, I'm really impressed. It has been the single best investment/upgrade I have done to date.

If you search for FASS on this forum, keep in mind that FASS intro'd a new pump motor last fall... so any brush failures you read about have sorta been "fixed" on the new pumps.

The garbage it captures in unreal... any pump that is placed in line without a prefilter is getting subjected to that garbage and is forced to grind that up in order to pass it... IMO, I feel this is the reason for some of the OEM pump failures...

And don't get me wrong, I still have the OEM stuff hanging there just in case... which is nice to have as a backup... Murphy's Law: if it is still there, I'll never need it.

diesel: How do you like your BD pusher pump? What kind of pressure do you see with the BD?

I have read a lot here about the FASS but nothing so far about the BD. I have a stock truck & plan on keeping it that way.

Thanks for any input.

i think it is about 22 psi but it does the job and it only cost about 250 bucks from xtreme diesel performance for the whole kit or you can research it on bd powers site it called the pusher pump kit.

you can get a stock lift pump $449. from diesel injection in San Antonio Tx . . I had a fass and it turned out to be junk. To loud and did not last. I have the walbro now and love it. . Payed $319. but there going up in price now that so many people are buying them. . Oo.

Wyosteve, maybe you could put a wanted ad in the TDR classified to buy an OEM lift pump from someone who is upgrading to an aftermarket. I sold my OEM pump to another Cummins guy who is now carrying it as his spare. There was nothing wrong with my OEM pump (27k miles), but I didn't trust it for the long term and wanted to go with the Walbro.

Just an idea.

Do these Walbro's have the air seperator and fuel filer deal in on package like the FASS?

Not at this time, Jason. The Glacier kit comes with the Walbro pump and the hardware to plumb it into the stock filter housing. If you want additional filtration or air separation you'd have to engineer that yourself. Some guys have mounted 2-micron fuel filters between the OEM filter canister and the CP3.

I installed my Walbro prior to the Glacier kits being available, and decided that I wanted some extra filtration as well as a protected mounting surface for the Walbro. I fabricated a custom bracket and bought a Perma-Cool filter/water separator from Jeg's. Pictures are in my Reader's Rigs gallery.

The FASS and Airdog are the only fuel/air separator's that I know of...

When fuel level is low. all the splashing around sometimes you can feel things retard a bit. Assuming this is the air getting sucked in the line. when your our racing you want little weight, that means not having 300 pounds of fuel in the tank

at a 1/4 tank it's not that bad. but near 1/8 or lower, bumpy roads shake things up a bit.

Hence, air seperator.

I find it funny that some people can see an "air" difference with the tank level... my FASS only cavitates if I get a certain type of fuel (not fuel brand, just certain fuels cavitate more than others)... other than that, it rarely cavitates and it doesn't care how full the tank is...

I have ran mine down to an 1/8th and it still doesn't cavitate... but I get the right fuel and it will continuously cavitate... even with a full tank!

Lets put it this way. . Some days the butt dyno feels stronger then others. The days I have more fuel in the tank it feels strongest.

I bet my random performace degrades are due to my lift pump starting to go. Either that or the Edge box is flacking out.

FASS is next on the list tho.
