04 Cummins on Hold (Dead Topic)

I just tried to place order today for new DR8H41 and am now waiting for the Dealer to call me back with more info. He said that as of this morning all Cummins HD trucks are on some sort of ordering hold.

Is the end of year already booked to capacity?

Will I get getting and EGR equipped truck?

I won't lose any sleep over this if I don't go to bed - right?

Dealer has order and will place is ASAP. Someone from Cummins or DC please chime in now.

Anyone in Michigan need a new plow truck. I will put mine up for sale today, or search under readers rigs under Airtabs test rig for images. I have only plowed my personal driveway with this two winters and it is ready for some serious work now for new owner with only 57K on odometer.

This may not apply to new orders, but I spoke with DC this morning about my order placed 9/12--went D1 9/17; scheduled to be shipped 10/1. No holds. The info is the same as when I last checked on 9/19.

My order was placed September 1st and when I called the other day I was D1 with a build date of the 25th and the women said it would be finished 1st week of October. I guess what I am trying to say is that you may be one of the first EGR trucks. Figure DC will finish up with the current orders, then they will do whatever retooling is necessary to start pumping out EGR trucks. I hope that I am wrong, but if not you made need to get a early 2004 truck thats on the lot as close as to your order as possible to avoid EGR.

Check back with your dealer to see if it was something on the order that is keeping him from ordering it. When I placed my order earlier this month, the Protection Group was not available. Normally this would mean they can't order unless I dropped that part of the order. But what my dealer did was place the order via the old DIAL system and got my order in with the protection group. If it is true that they can't order anything via their internet based system, have your dealer try and place the order thru thr DIAL system. Worked for me, it might for you also.

This is worrying me. I'm trying to time it just right so that the truck will come in after the end of this semester and before the EGR takes effect. I have a three week window. If I order around Nov. 1, I should be OK. I don't think Dodge will use EGR engines before the deadline and as long as mine is built before the cutoff date, it shouldn't have EGR (even if it is delivered after Jan 1).

I don't think there will be any pause in production or "retooling" at EGR switchover time since the engines will be coming from Cummins ready to go. Cummins has been building EGR engines for other applications for over a year so the only thing they'll be doing is halting production of the non-EGR Ram application engines (they'll probably still build non EGR for power generation and such).

False Alarm ?

I feel a little better now. I did not commit to the order on Wednesday night at dealership. Had to sleep on it! So when I called order in at 2:00 PM on Thursday my dealer told me they had noticed something Thursday morning that said all Cummins new orders would be on hold. Not really sure what was said, but he still had copy of build sheet and I told him to proceed. I call back last night just before they closed, he went into their system and it did process and assign it and order number so this was probably just a false alarm.

I am now waiting a couple more days for it to receive a build date.

Someone please tell me, what are the codes I should be looking for. I done this before on my 01 when ordered new and vaguely remember about four codes that dealer told me about as to how they track it.

Can I track the order on line?

Thanks, and sorry for the false alarm.

I don't think you can track it on line. You have to call the 800#. Me I will just wait until they call me and say its end. I got patience:)

You mean like this http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/yabbse/index.php?board=17;action=display;threadid=15783;start=15

"Ain't" it amazing all the stuff you hear. A salesman told me today that they could not order trucks with the anti-spin differential. Said they could not order for dealer stock or for customers.

Update two

Dealer has only given me the order # so I will have to find time to call today. He checked again for me and there is no D anything status assigned yet, and he still is being told that it is on a build restriction. Now I wonder is it the Cummings or Limit Slip axle that is holding it up.

Update three

Called Customer Assistance Center at 800-992-1997 with order number and all they can tell me is that I am at BX status which is order is placed, pass edit, and ready for scheduling.

No VIN # yet ! I will give it a couple more days and let you know if and when a VIN is assigned.

Update Four

Well,

Its been two weeks and one day now. Still at BX level and have not been assigned a VIN# yet. I sure hope it does get built this year. My 01 is in the classifieds if anyone is interested in purchasing and watching me thumb rides to work this long cold winter.

Talk about ordering your new '04 truck yesterday... just a little story that happened to me -- my husband got a new '04 for himself about a month ago and is obsessively anally possessive of it. So he decided I needed a new truck as well. I "had" a really great Sport model '01 HO. When I stepped out the back door Friday morning he and a friend of ours were standing beside my truck. When questioned, he admitted he had just sold my truck!! Guess what? I got to order my new 2500 Graphite with Slate Gray leather '04 Sport Laramie QC 6 speed by 10 a. m. on Friday, October 10. Our dealer indicated that it should not be a problem to build -- like you said -- nothing on hold. Oo. Theresa White

He is truly the best. I do love my '01 - we ordered it and I've been driving it since April 2000 and it is a terrific truck. If the '04 is as fast and strong as my old one has been, I will continue to be very happy with my truck -- and my husband too!
