dkosheba, just curious, did you order form a large volume dealer or a small town dealer? I asked my salesman why I would have a VIN so quick when others have been waiting for awhile now. He said it had to do with dealer allocation. That may have something to do with it.

well, i finally decided to call my dealer today, and my truck has been built, and it is waiting to be shipped... the sales guy is going to call me back in a few to get me the vin number... . he's saying it's going to be 6 weeks delievery but i am hoping for far less...

... he just called, and i have a vin number!!!

Nick,

I sent you a PM with more detail but incase you look here 1st, your truck is in Bensenville, IL on the railcar and got there this morning at 6:43 am CDT.

Small Town Dealer

Jeff Clark,

To answer your question. It is a very small town dealer. Only two salesman total but the best of knowledge and service from all. They sell a lot of Diesel Rams as they sit across the street from the local Farm Livestock auction house. People from far away come there to buy animals and go home with a new Ram I suspect. In fact they had 5 diesel rams on lot the week before I bought mine, of course the only one I could test drive the day I purchased was the dealers personal truck. We are like to peas in a pod... . I do like this dealership, ,but they may be suffering from the small town blues and not able to order anymore rigs do to dealer allotments.

How do I find out more about the allotment thing if the dealer cannot answer me?

Don

I don't know much about allocation either. One reason I went in and ordered early was this thread. The dealer I ordered from has over 100 2003/2004 Cummins powered Rams on their lot. He checked inventory and found one that was exactly what I ordered, but a 2003 (turns out it was sold). Maybe the dealers that order more trucks have theirs built first. They may be waiting for more trucks from your area to be ordered. I don't know.

I don't know how they schedule which vehicles to build 1st or not, but I did notice that my edaler had placed a few orders after mine and some were built before mine. So there must be some reason for such. Also when I order mine, the Protection Group was on restriction and others that had ordered where taking it off the order to get theirs processed. Mine went thru without a hitch.

There was a link posted (when I ordered mine I used it for checking on restrictions) that gives all the reasons that each mfr has a restriction on. If someone has it (deleted it after I got mine) and could post it, it may "assist" some who are ordering. If I find it agn, will post it. It has gud info on a few other things (leasing/buying/etc).

Best part is you can find out what is holding up the lines (like the 03 paint problem).

Update Five

Just check again today with dealership. They do have an allotment that we talked about, but they are now where near the limit. Not sure what it is, but that is not the issue.

Update, I am no longer at BX status. Checked today and I am now at BG status which is worse. BG is passed edit and n/a for build. What is Dodge doing? Supply vs. Demand. Demand should = supply.

My thoughts as of today are that I will not get truck until Jan 04 and it will have EGR.

Don

Don, as long as your truck is built before the Jan. 04 cutoff, you should be OK. I believe Cummins will still offer the motor in off-road applications without EGR so they shouldn't run out early.

I don't know what you ordered, but if it is a Quad Cab 4x4, you ordered the most popular combo and it may take some time to build.

I keep hearing rumor's that there will be no EGR in the 04 Cummins that they can pass 50 state without an EGR system. Are they true? I have no doubt that computer and injection tweaks could make this happen.

Ordered my 03 from a small dealer it went BX to BG and back to BX for 18 weeks, when the salesman got all over a Dodge rep and it went D1 in 3 days. Took a total of 21 weeks and 5 days from order to delivery. Friend of mine order his at the same dealer 10 weeks after I ordered and was driving his 4 weeks before mine went D1 go figure.

Oh crap!!! I have not had a chance to order my new 04 yet and I do NOT want an egr truck. I am sure that the dealer will have no idea which one I will get if I order in the next week or two. What do you guys think? Am I too late? Please tell me that I am not!!!:(

Thanks

Kevin

Kosheba,

Quit crying the "blues" about that '04 truck you can't get.

I know you really want to match the wifes new Durango with

a twinner Atlantic Blue HO but, you know as well as I that you should just get out of that hill billy cow town dealership and go up to the big city at K&M and buy my old '03 that is still sitting on their lot. It has been in storage on their lot since March of this year, with only 5000 miles on it.

Boy it sure was a nice 3500 HO with a 6 speed, but I prefer my '02 that I just bought back from the guy who bought it after I traded it in. Is this a small world or what?

Oh I almost forgot, you can't drive a stick can you. ?

Would you like to rent my Saturn while you are waiting for that '04/'05 truck to be built?

Just jabbing you dude.

Eric

Update Six

Dealer information,

The dealer information that I got is they just received word that the hold up is the American Axle limited slip, and just like the Protection Group missing the Gas Tank shield now, they are just going to delete the option from the long list of BG or BX trucks stacked up in cue and build them any way. Just like they deleted the protection group from guys who ordered this past summer and their trucks came without it. I will wait until tomorrow to call into the hotline to check status again.

Can anybody verify this with AA? Your off the hook Mr. Cummings.

At this point I really want the Limited Slip and won't take my truck without one, so I hope they do hold up my order and make it an 04. 5 model. The extra HP and TQ won't hurt either if that rumor is true.

Just bought a used car from dealer to hold me over now that 01 has left me forever... ... ... Dealer offered a loaner until new truck comes in, but we both knew that would be a couple more months, so I decided to purchase a slightly used 95 Intrepid with 209K and will pacify me until 04 or 04. 5 is built.

;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

How can the holdup be from AA on the limited slip? I ordered limited slip and the protection group and my truck should be here any day. I've been told from day one that there is no hold anywhere on the line.

Not only that, when I ordered and '04 the Protection group was on hold and I still got it. Also after the order, I asked my dealer about Dodge removing any option from an order. And was told that they had spoken with the regional rep because I wanted the protection group and that Dodge would NOT remove any option without the dealer requesting it. Why would Dodge or any manufacturer just build without a given option that the customer order? Easy, because if you wanted that option and they just chose to delete an option, you the customer, doesn't have to take it. Shoot, how would you like to order a Black truck and it shows up white because they ran out of black paint?

Here is a site that shows the restriction on all vehicles. Click on "Updated Production News" (top left), then choose DaimlerChrysler / Trucks, and scroll down to Dodge Ram Pickups. This give the latest in restrictions.
