After placing my order 6 1/2 week ago I finally got a VIN number and ship date of 11/18! I didn't think it would ever happen. I was also told that it will take about 19 days to get to Spokane, WA. That means it should get to my dealer around Dec. 8th! I guess I will get a Christmas present after all! :D

Congrats Bob!!

I picked up my '04 today. Was out driving it all day long trying to get 500 miles on it at under 50 mph. only got 100 miles :(

Update Seven

Congratulations Big Bob,

You got me excited on your VIN# being created and are on the build que. I called last week and again today and still in BX, but must be getting close now. Hope to get VIN# soon.

Don

I finally got the real scoop on mine.

Completed:

Ordered 9/25

Est ship date 10/17

actual ship date 10/21 (when it left the plant)

loaded onboard ship 11/7

Future:

arrive port of Tampa 11/13

arrive dealer in Key West 11/20

So, my truck sat in Mexico from 10/21 until 11/7

then it takes 6 days to cross the Gulf of Mexico

then a week to get from Tampa to Key West

Amazingly slow! I'd think 10 to 14 days would be sufficient. One month from leaving the plant to arriving at the dealer. That's longer than from order to ship! If it does arrive at the dealer on the 20th & I pick it up on the 21st, that's four days less than two months.

You'd think they'd try real hard to close up that delay. Delay in shipping means a delay in someone getting paid!

Motorhead,

Look at it this way, as soon as your truck arrives the paint will be hard enought for you to wash and put a nice coat of wax on it. In Michigan, Mine will arrive in about two feet of snow and salt an will need to wait until spring for a good detail job. Key West? Must be nice!

dkosheba,

After sitting, baking in the sun in Mexico for two weeks, the paint should be about as hard as it'll get! The sun is so fierce down here at latitude 24 that we HAVE to use windshield sunshades. I also get window tint done. Legal in Florida. Even the police cars have it done! Keeps the UV from cooking the interior as well as the interior cooler.

I lived in Michigan from '67 until I retired in '01. North Macomb county. When I retired, I decided that I'd had enough of snow and moved south, WAY south. Actually we live on Big Pine Key, about 25 miles north (actually east) of Key West. BTW, it's sunny and 79 right now.

Update Eight

Gentleman,

Merry Christmas. I got a VIN# on November 13th, ordered on September 25th. I do know the truck in now in D status.

I tried to call DC today and they are on Holiday in observance of Veterans Day. I will call again on Monday to get my estimated ship date, but I will guess it to be Dec 24th right now. I'm not sure how Santa will deliver it as my new house does not have a chimney.

Don

i am both happy and sad at the same time. i am happy that mine will hopefully be delivered around christmas, and sad that it will unfortunately be delivered in the snow and SALT as dkosheba says. i am debating flat bedding it home and letting it sit till april ------ yeah right! like i could go that long without driving it. what the heck, it will last atleast 10 years, (with some TLC) even with the salt.

I placed my order on 10/17 and it went D1 on 10/31. I called DC today and recieved a VIN. The truck was also purchased using an EP#. The truck is a 3500 4x4, SRW, SWB, 6-speed. I really don't think there was a restiction on the diesel, just no room in the build schedule. DC said estimated ship date is 11/11, but I'm not putting much faith in that. Oo.

I placed my order for my 3500 QC SRW SWB 6-spd. on Oct. 10 and as of Nov. 15 it has been D status for nearly 3 weeks. Still no VIN. Dealer said his regional rep was coming in on Monday and he would try to get some answers from him.

Well, DC decided I don't need the new truck I ordered yet. They backed the ship date to 11/24!

The thing is that the White Obsession is sold and the new owner will take possession of it right before Thanksgiving. That means I will be at least a month without a truck!

Big Bob, don't hold your breath on that ship date. My DC buddy checks the ship status on my truck every day for me. Every day the ship date keeps moving a day. East coast trucks go by ship from Veracruz to Tampa, then by rail or truck from Tampa. My truck left the plant (KZ status) on 10/17. It got loaded on a railcar on the 21st. Still sitting on that damn railcar in Veracruz! Guess they can't find a freighter or something! Schedule shows six days across the Gulf, then a week from Tampa to the dealer in Key West. Moves a day every day. Original order date was 9/25. Midwest and West trucks go by rail from Saltillo to Laredo, then continue by rail or truck to the distribution point. Then there to the dealer. :{

Emissions engines

According to at least 3 dealers all trucks in the system are due in January and will have the EGR. I got tired of waiting and bought a lot truck. didn't get the color I ordered, but got everything else. Should be very interesting how many that ordered in the Fall get a EGR engine round the 1st of the year.

I really wanted a non EGR truck but it looks like I am going to be out of luck. I now plan to wait to see what the new engines look like. Hopefully they can be striped of all the EGR garbage. It might even be a good excuse to get an ATS manifold and a bigger turbo. :D I guess we will have to wait and see.

Actually, I don't think all east coast truck go to tampa. THe status shows mine if going from Veracruz to Balitmore. It went kzm status on 11/2 and nothing since then. Either it's sitting in the rail yard, or it's out on the high seas.

expected date originally was the 15th. Who knows where it is now.

I don't know how far up the east coast that applies to. Trucks here (Connecticut) are shipped by rail thru Port of Loredo, TX to Salem, Il and then east to the hub at Selkirk, NY, then trucked

to the destination dealer. I'd guess that NY and New England are shipped by rail all the way as well.

Bypassed my dealer and went right to Daimler Chrysler today and got some bad news. Seems the dealer was referring to the wrong VON when talking to me and DC couldn't find my truck in the system. The nice lady on the phone did some digging and came back with the correct VON and the news that my truck never made it to D status, that it was still BG. All she had to go on was a "materials hold" on the HO CTD. We know what that means! My truck was ordered October 10. I'm hoping to see it by New Years, but not counting on it.

I placed my order with the same Dealer as dkosheba on 9-10, fifteen days before he did. I called customer service Mon and was told my order was still BX. Also mine is about the oldest order in the system. Customer service told me to call my dealer and have him check with the district manager. My dealer happened to be at Chrysler in Detroit on Monday. Dealer called me Tuesday and told me that at a meeting Monday, he was told that any Cummins not already scheduled to be built would have the EGR engine and not to expect delivery till February OR March. The dealer said another order put in 15 days after mine (dkosheba's) was scheduled. Dealer said he had no reason as to why, except "Luck of the draw".

dkosheba and I must have ordered on the same day. I ordered 9/25. My truck went KZ (plant release) on 10/17 and was loaded on a railcar on 10/21. Still sitting in Veracruz on a railcar waiting on a freighter to Tampa. What in the h___ is going on???
