China, the REAL threat.

idle clatter

I stopped today to look at a 2004 F-150 cause my buddy kept arguing with me about the fact that they all had floor console auto shifters instead of column levers. Maybe some models do but not all as I didn't see one on the lot that had a console shifter.

Anyway, what I found somewhat amazingly cheap was the fact that a couple had some weird off brand tire I've never seen even at Walmart. They brand was somthing like Kolman and the model name was Dynamo or Dynamic or something stupid like that. Sad part was the truck (2WD) was $26,000 and didn't even have goodyears or michelins. I understand Ford now dislikes Firestone and that they are having some hard times but this is bad. The rest of the trucks had Michelins. These off brand tires didn't look like they'd last too long or have much in the way of traction.

No, I've heard of those and they aren't all that bad. These were something really off the wall. I've been shopping for some tires for a while and I thought I'd heard of every major and minor brand. But these were new to me.

I'll get the name and model of tire. I'll stop by there. I guarantee that my local Ford Dealer didn't install these tires. I firmly believe they were factory as they had the green marks on them where they dynamically balance them at Ford. It was an XL package if that matters. Perhaps they feel they dont deserve the best tires.

Don't get caught

Don't let some slick willy Ford sales guy sell you one. A cup of coffe and two donuts later you'll be tradin in the CTD for a damn F-150 super special.

Ya... . maybe... the Hankook tire model called the Dynamic looks familiar. I'll bet those were it. South Korea is where they are made huh? OEM Hyundai I could see, but on a F-150 all american icon? Small world I guess. They were the absolute smallest tire that would fit on that size of rim. Kinda looked funny.

Tell you what I don't adore about their website... I cant stand those Asian cartoon characters with the big round eyes. I hate those cartoons on TV and for the life of me I cannot follow the story line. They dont make sense. Like Godzilla movies I guess. No storyline. :) I wonder if laser beams emminate out of those tires on the new F150.

Edit: Looks like they are now Ford OEM.

"Original Equipment for some of the world's finest auto makers including Ford, Volkswagen, Kia, Daewoo and Hyundai!"

That "finest list" should only have one... Volkswagen.

ofcourse not, profit margins just went up! Ford lost a ton of money in the past fews years... . funny i thought it was the number one selling truck? and you lose money? i'm not seeing the logic there.

Hey if you get a chance, check out the hub caps. If my memory serves me correctly , the one we had in our shop had hub caps with seven false lug nuts on them, but the wheels were six lug.

they have been doing that since the mid 90s. The f250 light duty had a 7 lug hub cap.

I'd buy a Hankook as fast as I would buy a GoodYear! Matter of fact, wife's car has a set now and daughter's car had a set with over 70,000 miles on them before we traded the car.

I'd buy them 10 times faster than a Firestone.

I like Michelin's and Yokohamas. But so far, the Hankooks have lasted longer than two sets of Yokohamas.

Guess the outdoor camping trips between Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone have been called off then. :)

I thought the early new style light duty F250 circa 1997 actually had 7 lug wheels for real. If I remember correctly when they came out they did. Then the SuperDuty 250's came out shortly after.
