As the title states my lumbar support just broke (my brother did it while adjusting himself while driving).

I did a search and saw fixes for the 03 electric type and also for the 06 manual type but nothing on the 04. Does anyone know if the 06 part numbers work on the 04 too?

BTW the dealer says I need to buy a whole seat back for a cool $1k .
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have any answers that will help you repair it but I do know that every large city has at least one and LA probably has 100 small detail shops that support the used car departments of big dealers. The shops are often somewhat hidden from the general public in small shops in run down strip buildings because their customer base is dealers, not owners.

When used cars are taken in on trade they often have broken parts like your seat. The shops I speak of can "fix" almost anything on a late model automobile quickly and inexpensively from touching up scratches and chips to electronics, minor mechanical parts, to upholstery and vinyl tops. I would bet someone can disassemble your seat and repair it a lot cheaper than a new seat back.

Salvage yards are another possible source.

Ask a local used car manager where he sends his trades out to be reconditioned.

Mine broke, too. I took it apart and there is a little threaded plastic piece inside the knob that failed. Why this isn't a replacement part is beyond me. I, too, was told I'd have to buy a new seatback assembly. I bought a small screw eye and drilled a hole down the center of the plastic piece and put the screw eye in. The roll pin that used to hold the strap to the plastic piece now goes through the screw eye.

Not pretty, but it works.

There was an article with pictures and all, on how to fix this issue. I can 't remember where exactly it was, but it was a good article. I think it may have also been in one of the TDR books as well. I have just not had time to do the fix on mine yet. And to add another thing to it... my driver's rear motor went out... it just clicks. For the heck of it, I tried the lumbar support button and it was working. It worked for a day or two, then stopped again. I really don't adjust my seat that much, so it's not a top priority to fix it, yet!

The previous thread was to repair the "button" type lumbar controls. The OP and I have the mechanical "knob" type lumbar control.

Different animal.
