When I start my truck it takes a little time ( 5 mnutes ) for the alternator to charge at full capacity. What I mean is that the heater fan will speed up the slow down. What is failing if anything?

Thanks

Sounds like the grid heaters are firing; normal in cold temperatures on startup. The grids draw a lot of amperage. Watch the voltmeter on the dash. If it cycles in time with the observed slowing of the blower fan, then it is your grids and it is normal. I bet your lights dim, too.
