2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Intermittent blower fan speed

My blower fan is working/not working on a regular basis. The morning first start, it usually runs, all speeds normal. The evening, no fan speed at all.
If it runs when I start it, it continues to run as long as I do not turn of the vehicle.
It was cold, both times it worked, but it was cold yesterday evening and it would not run.
I have cycled the heater/ac controls when it was dead, shut the car off and restarted, and that did not help the non running condition.
Im going to start at the resistor and give it a check, any other advice appreciated. Thanks. Gary

When a resistor block is the culprit, usually only one speed fails, and since the resistors are bypassed on high speed, the blower fan always works on high speed.

Swap out the blower fan relay. If that doesn't work, then it is probably the blower motor.

Have you tried whacking it when it's not turning? When mine was going out, I'd use my high idle stick to whack it and it would run till I turned it off.

Well. You were right. I swapped the resistor ( the engineer that placed it there needs a good talking to). That did not fix it, even though the resistor was crumbling.
Swapped the blower motor relay with the tow relay (same part number) and that did not fix it.
Big Papa. I'm gettin a big stick.

A bad motor (worn/unlubricated/tight bushings) could cause the motor to require more current, in turn overheating and deteriorating the resistor pack.
I found that out with my former 2002 going across the hot desert, AC and fan manually alternated in positions 2, 3 and 4 when 1,2 & 3 quit. Found a NAPA store in the middle of nowhere. Replaced the resistor and all was good. Then the smell of hotness, thought it was due to "oils-n-stuff" during the manufacturing process. A couple hours later pulled over to check the resistor. It was too hot to touch the heater case at the resistor. Pulled resistor and the ceramic was cracked. Put it back in and kept the fan speed low for the remainder of the trip. Ordered a new OEM fan and resistor online. It was delivered to the house and awaiting installation by the time we got home from our vacation. The old motor ran smooth and quiet. However, I forgot the current draw when I tested the new vs. old, but it was "hardly any and warm to the touch resistor pack" amps vs." "a whole lot too many and roast hot dogs in 5 seconds or less" amps.

I'm getting old and really do not want to take the chance of either component going out again, so, I'm buying new.

Ya, I'm only 77. It is getting difficult to get under the dash these days.

I called Genos because I wanted an OEM part. The factory blower motor #5015866AA was priced 190 + ship online. No one picked up, I left a message and waited a while and did not get a return call.
I finally called the local Chrysler Dealer. $286 next day availability.
I ended up at 1A auto parts online. I have had good luck with them in the past. I bought a TRQ blower with cage for 68.00. Lifetime warranty, the part arrives tomorrow.
Not what I wanted to do, but the truck is needed next week.
