More Number Games

Looks like there will be a little more of the number game going on pretty quick.

Any guess on the rating?

I like this comment.....

Spokesman Jon Harmon said the new truck will have upgrades in power to both the gasoline and the diesel engines, which will give them "easily best in class" towing capability.

I'll go with 330 / 605

I'm not too worried, they will still most likely be V-8 diesels which I'm not a big fan of and if they have any problems like they did when the new 6. 0 came out it will take them a year or two to get the new model settled down. By then who know's where our little I-6 engine will be!

Never Know

Since it's all a numbers game and some of the brighter bulbs like the V-8 more than the I-6, maybe Cummins needs to step it up to an I-8. Just so we are even on the piston count and all. :p

Looks like I don't have too much longer before making some power upgrades to stay #1. I better start saving up some $$$. Too bad I'm flat busted after making that downpayment:p I'm sure they won't be much higher than 600 though. I did read in Peterson's 4WOR where Ford was going to be bringing out a higher displacement version of the 6. 0 Powerchoke. Maybe they'll be like Chebby and overbore the cylinders too much as in the 6. 5L. Then they'll have heaps of warrantied blocks sitting around with holes in the cylinders:rolleyes:

Bad blocks

Think of the positives,

1. Keeps the machine shops busy.

2. Providing material to recycle.

3. Keeping the economy going.

Lets see a nice 8. 0 liter... .

approximate quote from ceo of ford "we will have the highest horespower trucks in our class. " and guess what they do and always will have. if dodge and chevy come out with 340 ford will come out with 341. example chevy 350 ford 351. dodge 440 ford 442. this engine in a marine version has been rated to 373hp but can it run 373 and keep emissions no i dont think so unless it gets the vgt turbo which it will and the price of the engine will go up by at least 5-600 dollars. but it will be worth it. ;)

I don't think it is that hard to make a truck that looks better then the Dodge Ram, Their current model does that now. As far as Ford goes, they have to come out with a new look, they need to change there image and move on. The last two years have been terrible for Ford and Super Duty truck owners, they have to come up with a way that doesn't remind the people about the problems of the past. What better way to do that then to claim they are going to get bigger and better new engines, both gas and diesel, and they are also going with a new look. Sounds like go common sense to me, they are essentially dumping the current super duty and it's problems and starting over. The real loser's are the Ford fans that stuck with their brand of trucks. Some guys here thought that when Dodge kept their 600 under wraps till the last minuet, that they got **** on or at least felt betrayed. The poor guy's that bought the Ford trucks now will stand out like leapers against the new design, with it's new image and power plant, making the current model and those a year or two before it worthless and extremely hard to get rid of. I feel for them, hopefully Ford will get it right this time and come up with a truck that works and plays well. They should also be re-leasing the new 6 cylinder version of the F-150 soon after the redesign, that will make for some fun add watching, I wish them luck. Ford needs a couple of winning models to pull it's self out of the red, they are in a must win situation. The new Mustang looks nice and will sell well, the new F-150 is also doing well in it's first year, I think they got that one right, and it will sell well for them. The "500" is to new for me, I am not sure about that one, but I think the ideal of a re-born Ford Bronco is a step in a right direction, especially it they give it it's own platform. The looks are classic and modern at the same time, if it's as rugged as the original Bronco, I think it would be great. Only problem I have with this line-up is it's all based on old school or nostalgia, catering to the 45-65 group, the baby boomer's. I hope Ford don't rely to much on this group of the population for to long, they need to sell car, but they also need to sell cars to the younger generations, the ones that will be buying for the next 20-30 years. The baby boomer's will only be looking at cars for the next 10 years, which makes them good for only one or two more purchases. I would like to know what the plans are for the future, not just the next model line-up?

The better the competition, the better for us. :) We wouldn't have the 326/600's without the Duramax and the 6 litre powerstrokes.

"We're going to make it look tougher. We're going to put better gas engines in it," Read as "We will have the same crappy diesel though":D

If they do bring out a larger cid PowerChoke this soon after introduction of the 6. 0L, all the 6. 0L guys will feel like Chebby guys that owned the 5. 7L diesels from the late 70's. :D

It's more of a freshening then a new model.

The front end is restyled, a new dashboard, upgraded frame, the coil spring front end, and a very minor bump to the 6. 0. (570 lbs torque)

Unchanged - the dubious fuel injection system, the need to tear apart the truck- or lift the body off the engine- to do major work on the engine. Most of the basic truck is unchanged.

Here is the ordering guide if you're curious. http://www.fordaxz.com./pdf/2005.F350.OG.pdf

Competition is good, but these changes aren't enough to convince me Ford is the way to go. JMHO.

According to that pdf, Ford is matching Dodge with 17" DRW wheels - this should mean a better selection of tires and hopefully some forged aluminum wheels too. I know the Ford bolt circle is different, but if Alcoa is going to forge wheels for Ford, it's not as big a deal to put the bolt holes in the Dodge pattern for us Rammers.
