Wonder what would happen if you installed a ECM from a pre '04. 5 Dodge/Cummins?
It would not function.

Thats the difference between an auto and a manual trans. I replaced my fronts at around 70k, they could have went another 10k maybe, but the rotors were junk so I put pads on at the same time as the rotors
We've replaced both front and rear on the '04. 5 4 times now I believe which would average around 80K per set. I have 68K on the '07 and the pads and rotors look like new.
I hear ya, I've been looking around for a 4500 or even a 5600 (gasp) but any that I come across are priced waaayy beyond what I'm willing to pay. I was within 12 hours of buying an entire parts truck with a 5600 that had been rolled for $2800. It was about a 5 hour drive from me, and I couldn't take off work so was going to leave early Saturday, he called me Friday night and said it was sold (first come, first serve) Most people are asking close to that just for the trans and linkage
As nice as your truck is, I wouldn't mess with it.
I just hate the gearing of the 47 for towing. It's very stout, I had it built by a local guru who specializes in building transmissions for high power sled pullers so I'm not worried about hurting it. But hooked to anything over 7 or 8k and I'm really working the truck, not to mention the mediocre brakes the 2nd gens have, just makes a manual a better choice IMO. I was looking for a manual trans when I came across this one but with the condition and mileage (and price) I couldnt pass. I honestly would prefer an auto, just not the 47. So for now she gets put in D and ran hard
Thank you for the compliment![]()
Kinda sounds like you need to be hating your rear end ratio (3. 55?) instead of your trans?? Mark
