My 06 2500 QC TRX4 has a constant power draw that is draining the batteries and dragging down the system. I think it may be the grid heater, as I did get an error code indicating a Grid Heater malfunction. I disconnected a wire from the positive battery cable on the passenger side and it stopped the draw. The wire was green and pretty heavy. Is this the grid heater? How difficult is replacing the grid heater, assuming that's the problem. Thanks.

Karter, the grid heater relays CAN fail and stick in the closed/on position. If the green wire you removed runs to the two ovalish relays that are mounted just below and to the side of the passengers side battery, then that IS in fact the grid heater relay feed wire. As long as you do not live and/or need to start your truck in EXTREMELY cold climates, you can simply leave the grid heater relay wire disconnected from the battery side for as long as you want with zero bad affects on your engine. I have been running without mine, for other reasons, for many years now and my truck has never failed to start even down to freezing temps.

Thanks seafish, that's good to know. Unfortunately, I live in WI and temps in the teens are pretty common this time of year. I know from experience that if I skip the grid heater cycle, it starts very hard and runs rough in the beginning. I may leave the wire off for now, and reconnect it temporarily if I need the grid heater. At least until I can get it fixed correctly.
