Well, I'd sure like to try this one again. After I asked if anyone was experiencing the Check Gauges Light remaining on 1/17 and got 65 viewers but no replies, I did some more research and found that indeed this same issue was discussed on this forum 12/26/04 regarding '05 trucks. While waiting at the dealership when I originally took my truck in for a fix of the problem, there were two other new truck owners in with the same problem, so I don't think its just my truck. According to my dealership's service department, the problem is a programming error which falsely reads a defective ambiant battery temperature code and the check gauges light stays on. Apparently Dodge thought they had a fix last month, but it didn't work. For the '05 and earlier truck owners with the problem, they can switch the key on/off three times, read the code and if the ambient temp code, clear it. The '06s do not have that option. I don't want to beat up on Dodge, I want to find a way to check then clear the code on my '06, and I'm hopeful that someone on this forum has figured out how to do that. As long as the Check Gauges Light remains on, I'm blind to any other engine control problem which would trigger the light, so I'm pretty interested in finding a work around until Dodge solves the software problem.

What is the number of your code???? I kept getting a check engine light with a code (don't remember right now) and took it to the dealer two times then they replaced a sensor and no more lights or codes.

someone here said on the 06 cycle the key 3 times, but be sure to cycle it all the way to the ACC positon. I sware I remember he said it was an 06 and it worked. I would try it but :(

I tried it on my 06 last night and it does it just fine. It gives dashes where the odometer is, then says "-done-". I pulled the intake air temp sensor and started it, then the CEL came on and when you cycled the key three times it threw the code for the sensor.

I've got just over 1000 miles on my new '06 (had it just over a week) and I've taken it to the dealer this morning for the following codes:

P0111 Intake Temperature Sensor Performance/Rationality

P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Performance/Rationality

P0514 Battery Ambient Temperature Sensor Performance/Rationality

The P0111 came first on one morning (block heater not used) followed by the P0514 on another day (block heater used). The P0111 and P0116 came together just yesterday (block heater used).

My only BOMB's (so far) are a AFE Stage II intake, Centramatics and PML rear diff cover. I might see how the AFE may set the P0111 code but the other two I am clueless on. Truck was built mid-December so I "assume" that the PCM/ECM has got the latest flash already.

On edit: The only way I know of to reset the check engine light (and clear codes) is with a OBDII scanner with CANBUS capability. The CANBUS stuff is new for 2006. You can read the codes by doing the 3X OFF/ON sequence but this will not clear them from memory. I don't even think that removing the battery cables will clear them. IMHO, of course. :D

Your not the only one with this problem with the check engine light coming on. I work here at Dealer here in Central Oregon and I have about 4 customers with the same problem. DC is aware of the glitch in the software and they tell us they are working on a flash for the temp sensors. Seems to more of a problem if you live in a cold climate in the winter. Were I'm located we don't get the rain everyone thinks of when you say Oregon we are at 3500 feet elevation and we get pretty cold in the winter so thats why we are seeing this. We have told our customers as soon as DC gives us a flash to update we will let you know. We have a list of people have this happen but it is not every one with a 2006

Thanks for the great information! I can hardly wait to try the three on/off with my truck - that would be really useful for the future. I'll pursue the CANBUS lead too. I did some Internet research today and the only thing that specifies 2006 is Superchips 3805 Flashpaq. The literature for the Flashpaq indicates that it will read and clear DTCs, but I'm not sure what all is covered. I sent them an e-mail asking for clarification. Still and all, $400-$500 for a device to read and clear codes is way extreme and right now I can't see a need for the other features of the Flashpaq. Greg - thanks for the "heads up". I was sure that the Corporate guys were working on the problem, but after living with my '93 all these years I've learned that many things are just part of the trucks' personality and I'd best learn to live with them or be grumpy and miss out on the big diesel PU fun. I still miss the throaty diesel roar in my new truck.

Well, got my truck back from the dealer today. Al Deeby Dodge in Clarkston, MI did a real nice job finding the issue. The intake temp sensor had a bad (loose) connection on one of the pins. They took the connector apart and reseated all the pins.

Well, Check Engine Light came back on today..... Code P0111, Intake Air Temp Sensor.

They replaced it on 11/28/05 with 3,751 miles and now has 6800 miles.

Any word on the reflash for the temp sensor glitch????

Back to the dealer.

TSB just came out dated Feb 15th 18-005-06. Fix for check engine light for air temp, battery temp and intake air sensors. Go to your local dealer to get flash done
