Changing oil without filling filter??

really? more power, more heat? so are you saying that because his truck makes 30 more hp than mine that's the reason?

Then why does my truck with a 150hp box run way cooler than his? Even turned all the way up towing, I have yet to go over 208...

Sorry, but your too general on that statement, it doesn't work. The real problem appears to be minimum airflow through the recently redesigned front end, based on some tests that are being run, which is causing the fan to come on just about all the time.

Yesterday we had 100 deg heat. Not towing but beating around there was no difference in coolant temp than on a cool day. I even have a window screen to keep th bugs out of the rad. I also rarely hear the fan. They got the Cummins down pat. You almost can't lose.

GM can take their Dmax and shove it on the clueless. I had enough headaches and worries the three years I had my Dmax.

Yeah, my 05 CTD runs even cooler than my 03 duracool. . I'm hard pressed to get over 190 when its well over 100 outside.

My '97 Maxima has been perfectly trouble free for 130K miles and 7 years. You were saying?

You have the only one. I know two people that had a 95-97 Maxima's and both where lemons. Another friend had a pre-95, same thing, total POS. I know (3) people with Maxima's, and tripple lemmon's... :{

My brother in law put over 250,000 on his 95, and its still running (but looks like crap). Funny how some run and some don't.

My wife had a Stanza and it ran good until 80,000 miles. Then we gave the car to a neighbor, and the engine blew! Hey, he got the car for "FREE"! Buddy with a 95 or so Nissan Pathfinder. Talk about a POS. In the shop for everything. Warped heads, broken timing belt. Electrical failed, along with transmission. Then, the heads warped again, blowing the head gasket going on a trip. :{

Isn't that that the truth. We bought a 4wd Nissan Sentra wagon new in 1987. I never invested in more than normal maintenance... timing belt, water pump, filters, cv axles, etc. I sold it to a guy I work with in 2001 with 250,000 miles. As far as I know, he has not had any trouble other than regular maintenance. The clock currently has 334,000. He uses it as his daily driver. :)

I believe you are referring to Mitsubishi.

Both the HA-GO and Type 98 KE-NI where made by Mitsubishi.

That is my "of little use" tidbit of knowledge for the night... ... ... .....

I have owned 3 Maximas, a 1999, a 2001, and now a 2002. Nothing but routine maintenance was ever needed on any of them. The 2002 has only had a set of front brake pads installed and it now has 87k. 0-60 in under 7 seconds is nice too. A co-worker just sold his Nissan truck that had over 420k and still had the original head gasket. GM products have given me the most trouble of the brands that I have owned.

Reliable or not, my only question about 360hp/650TQ is where does it make it? Just above idle or above 2000rpm. I switched from v-8 gassers to get away from high reving, and the need to shift down each time a hill the size of a goat turd appeared on the horizon.

To each there own though.

:rolleyes: Did your buddy know that timing belts are part of routine maintenance? Makes you wonder if he did much for maintenance at all :rolleyes: I had a 95 Pathfinder and in the 4 years I owned it from 30K to 85K miles it was very reliable. Repairs were an alternator $100 and timing belts $250 (at their 60K interval). The only "common" problems with the Nissan V6 is the exhaust studs tend to crack and make a ticking sound. It is an expensive repair ~$500 but my dealer split the cost with me when mine went. Look out when the Japanese come out with a Turbo diesel.

To all you Maxima talkers... .

Who cares about Maximas. You want to talk Japanese engines go to the Duramax site :-laf

jandtjil,

Yes the Dmax is more of a higher rpm diesel. It is known for screaming under load up hills with the fan roaring. GM and Dmax says it's what it's designed to do. They make cool drag race trucks though. Sit low already from the factory :( and come with fuse link tie rods that bend and/or snap under harsh conditions. The latest version of the Dmax is not going to be better IMHO. It's got more power but is getting into overhaeating issues most likely because of cooled egr, higher power levels and no way to remove the heat because the engine compartment is packed.

No I think I'll stick with Dodge for quite some time, as long as I play diesel. I already have 500 hp at the crank with just a box.

Dynoed 425/900 so what's up with a measly 360/650 :-laf Dmax guys are surprised we can hit the same and more power as them with just a box. Used to be the Dmax had the plug and play advantage... no more.

i agree with flat lick dodge,i have had the same results. the difference i could tell was the dodge will pull better on launch up to 55 mph. from there the duramax will walk away from it. i have a large inclosed trailer that the duramax would pull to speeds that would scare you. the dodge wont pull the same load up the same hills at 70 mph. in fact i cant even maintain 70 up small hills. i think the 3rd injection event and the cat has killed the stock cummins.

You're kidding, right? Maybe you have something wrong with your truck. I have towed over 30,000 pounds GCW at 70, no problem, many times, and easily maintained that speed up small hills. The most I've towed was 42100 pounds GCW. Again, at 70 but definitely had to downshift on the hills. I only had 5000 miles on the truck then. One particular pass I went up was Golconda Pass on I-80 in northern Nevada. It's about 5154' but I'm not sure of the grade. Started at the bottom in 6th gear, 70 mph; crested the top in 5th gear, 1800 rpm, 37 mph. Now that the engine is broken in and I know the truck better, I think I could do even better.

no kidding. i am starting to get some black smoke if i use the go pedal,but no skipping,and the mpg is good. i am going to keep my eye on the mpg to see . i hate to take anything back unless something is really wrong. the way i see it is the engine passed inspection so if and when it melts down,dodge can just replace it.

Some of you guys REALLY need to take off the blinders, and get over your senseless brand loyalty!

Are Dodges, with our dandy Cummins good trucks? You BET they are! ;)

But for EVERY horror story you can dig up for the GM or Ford stuff, many of us can provide a countering one that makes the Dodges look bad!

Sure, the GM and Ford stuff have issues - so do WE - and while there ARE differing characteristics and options spread across the different brands, that is a GOOD thing, since we don't all WANT the same layouts in our trucks.

Can we hop up our trucks for better performance? Sure - and so can Ford and GM owners - wake up and smell the coffee lads - the gap in truck excellence is NOT as great as you'd like to pretend it is! ;) :D
