I got letter extending the warranty on my 06 turn signal for 10 years or 150,000 miles. Any one have this problem and what to expect?

If you do a quick search on "multi function switch"you will find a description of the various problems that might arise. Not everyone has these problems, but there were enough people having issues that related to safety that the NHTSA forced Dodge to offer some sort of solution, evne if they did not force a recall. The lower price and extended warranty on the multifunction switch for some years and models of trucks is what resulted.

In short, due to the design of and perhaps excessive grease in the switches installed at the factory, small metal particles might build-up inside the switch and then start shorting out the contacts inside the switch so that the switch did not operate consistently. Many people hs a symptom where the right blinker would bling on the truck when the switch was pushed left (or vice versa) with NO way to know it, only the blinkers outside the truck would be blinking wroong. Needless to say, that is a dangerous situation, and some accidents did in fact happen becuase of it, which is why the NHTSA forced some sort of resolution with Dodge.

Hope that helps.

That’s encouraging. I want to go left and the truck says I’m going right. And I don't know it.

Yup... that's one of the potential problems... that's why NHTSA got involved.

That being said, a TDR member, and excellent diesel mechanic, by the name of Sag2, posted this DIY solution--

I HAVE personally removed the multifunction switch from my truck AND taken it apart to do this EXCELLENT lighting switch mod--

... . while it is not for the mechanically challenged, it is also NOT that difficult to do.

My 06 did this, started randomly blinking the wrong direction from the switch position. Randomly, and sometimes in the same turn goes back and forth from right to left. I wrote a long letter to DC months ago. Pretty much read them the riot act and liability in event I hit someone, etc. Well thought it was wierd since I had just completed getting the reimbursement from Chrysler for my out of pocket to get the switch fixed (back in Dec '11) at my dealer. The dealer I purchased the truck from and does my lifetime oil changes, has been no help whatsoever and could care less when it comes to taking care of the customer after the sale. Anyway, was easier dealing with the Chrysler rep than trying to pull it from the dealership angle. Funny thing is it took a passenger pointing it out to me to figure out it was doing the wrong turn indication. Guess I got too many other gauges going on and my own fault as I might have even caught it sooner had I paid attention.

I had fixed my multifunction switch as described here in the TDR. Having other issues, right turn indicator light out, I took the hit and visited the stealership. I had in hand the document I printed form Chrysler, the TSB, with extended warranty informatiom. First the dealer tried to say they never heard of any extended warranty on the switch, then after looking over the documentation I provided them, they claimed I was the first customer ever to come in for this repair. After the tech checked out my switch, he was unable to duplicate any issues related to it. I let them know the grease had liquified in the switch and was inside the column housing. They would not replace the switch, reporting that without any issues, they weren't allowed to just throw one in. So be it. I have time. Unfortunatly for me, I wound up paying $130 for diagnostic time to tell me I needed a new instrument cluster. I'll just yank it out and replace it myself, they wanted over 460 just for the part, no wonder the'yre hurting.

... just rec'd my extended warrenty letter last week as well. Turn signa:confusels are doing this intermitent problem on mine as well. Wait until you shut the truck off sometime and see if one side of the parking lights come on by themselves after about 25-30 seconds... its another issue I had when I first bought it. I do believe they went to the electrical engineers @ Chyr for that and ended up r & r'd the TIPM. Had the truck for a week chasing wires. I'd rather change a motor vs chasing sparks. Plus all three brake lights just quit working as well, any help out there for that issue? We noticed it when we hooked up a solid working dump trailer last week... all other lights work fine except the brakes. Seems suspcious the letter showed up the next day... hmmmn!

I had the issue of the break lights not turning off. It ended up being the cap on the power steering resavar holding too much pressure. Think it's time to go back to the more simpler times of the trucks of yesteryear... .

I just got truck back from the shop in Vacaville, Ca. today. The recall of the turn signal has been placed on back order due to a demand placed on the factory apparently
