Can anybody who wants a six speed auto tell me why? Do you guys really think one (two more in dodges case) gear(s) is going to equate to better fuel mileage? That hasn't been the intial findings with the 6spd. ally. I do realize that we need more trucks on the road to get some more miles to truly evaluate the situation. I personally would love to see dodge keep the 48re, give it a stronger tq converter and valve body and truly make it the toughest auto on the market bar none. Then comes the next step... . market the damn thing like it should be!

I second 6 speed auto, would have one now (and a happier wife). Also - slide in camper compatible, these are supposed to be heavy duty trucks. manual hubs would be great, and a cummins in the power wagon would be heaven.

Depends on the gearing. My best mileage is at 52 mph/1500 rpm, with 3. 73 axles, stock tires, and the 48RE's overdrive ratio of 0. 69:1. I get about 21 mpg at that speed when empty.

If the new 68RE comes with 5th and 6th gears at 0. 77:1 and 0. 55:1, I would be at the same engine rpm in 6th gear, but doing 65 mph instead of 52. That alone would bring that 21 mpg to 23+. That's a 10 percent gain, with no other changes to the vehicle, and I get where I'm going a little faster.

A 10% change in gearing does not change the milage by 10%. There is a lot more to milage than RPM, wind resistance for one. If changing gear ratios improved fuel economy by the same percentage, I'd opt for maybe a 1. 86 ratio and get 40 MPG.

By itself, a 10% gear change does not increase fuel economy. I gave a specific example where I'm at the most efficient rpm, which is also producing near the torque peak. I'm also talking about far more than a 10% gear change - from 0. 69 to 0. 55 is a 20% gear change... a 10% improvement under the scenario I described is not unreasonable.

My bad for not looking at your numbers more carefully.

It is a common misconception that the milage gains change in a direct relation to gear ratio changes. I am getting almost the same milage with my 04. 5 with 3. 73's as I did with my 01. 5 with 4. 10's. About 19 with the old truck and 20 with the new one.

Hmmm

Factory installed FASS

Higher RPM LIMIT

7 spd manual With gear vendor over under

Ditch the 06 front end ( 02-05 looks way better)

Better U joints that are completely greaseable

Make banks Technicooler stock

Holset VGT hx40

5 inch exhaust ( Stacks as a Factory option)

Factory installed Gunrack

Make the 4x4 level from Factory and 3 inches more ground clearance for 35's

Better steering box

19. 5 inch wheels on the Dually

Full bed for Mega Cab

Built in Brake controller

Better exterior lighting like the acura has that follows your turns

Dump bed option

Sprayed in bed liners from factory

Will post more as I think of it

(1) A REAL oil pressure gauge!

(2) EGT gauge

(3) Transmission temp. gauge

(4) Fuel pressure gauge

(5) Leather bucket seats w/safe in console that locks

(6) Locking hubs

(7) Dana 60 front axle

(8) Dana 80 rear axle

(9) A better heater for us guys in the cold country

(10) A better a/c system for us guys in warm areas of the country

If I "Edit" no one will see it so...

... NO *BLEEPING* LIFT PUMP!!!!!!! Don't Fords and Chevys run without them??

... ATS manifold w/EGT port

... Twins

Forget about lowering your rpm's to increase mileage, it doesn't work. I get the same mileage, in some cases better, with my '04. 5 w/4. 10's as other livestock haulers get with their 1st gens w/3. 55's and smaller trailers. Running empty it MAY help some. Dad's 03 w/3. 73's and auto turn way lower rpm's than I do and he gets worse mileage. Lowering rpm's does not lower wind resistance. ;)

I second the asking for more grease zerks. Grease is cheap. Even cheaper than a measely $100 deduct.

A tow package that includes all the mods we have to do to tow heavy without hurting something.

A complete air system (intake, turbo, exhaust) that would keep EGT`s under 1000*. That would leave us room for more power and still be safe.

Gauges for everything

Exhaust brake

Trailer brake like the Brakesmart

Power box switchable between economy or towing

What I want on a 2007 Dodge truck

Club cab back, don't need 4 door for me, A 7 speed bullet proof trans. for extra fuel mileage like over seas has. Nicer Interior,Better front end and stronger. Steering sucks need better,Two speed rear end would be nice. Wood grain steering wheel. Better heater and warms up like It should. Better headlights. ,Tracking systems In case stolen. Better warranty like Cummings has. Lots more power when needed, should be 500hp or better. :-laf

I would like to see tailgate locks and overhead readouts that show everything at the same time. I would also like to see the clock and my radio station at the same time. Is it that difficult to have full time better displays?

On a 4500/5500 series truck. I would like to see:

(1) A Cummins with more torque. Horsepower comes later.

(2) A real Jake brake, none of this exhaust brake nonsense.

(3) EGT/oil/boost/transmission gages. Real gages, not dummy gages.

(4) Dana 80 or better, rear end/electric locker option.

(5) Dana 70 or better, front end/electric locker option.

(6) FASS lift pump/filter or equivalent.

(7) Larger fuel tank/65 US gallons would be ideal.

(8) Transmission, NV5600 or better.

(9) Metal intercooler/no plastic junk.

(10) Real bumper/winch option.

(11) Single cab 4500/5500 option.

(12) 10 foot bed/ with dump option.

(13) 19. 5 wheels stock.

(14) Heavy duty tow package.

(15) Heavy duty lighting option.

(16) Top of the line theft deterrent electronics option.

Basically, I am asking DC to build a dually 5500 series Power Wagon with a Cummins engine/NV5600 transmission on 19. 5 wheels. These options are readily available through DC/Dodge and would build an ideal heavy duty truck.

Now, who's the first man in line to spring $80K for a 5500 series Dodge truck?

Below is a wish list for a new 5500 HD truck

- 16K rear axle, 10K front axle (4X4).

- Straight frame design that will accomodate any up-fitter body.

- 4 door cab/chassie.

- 7 or 9 speed manual Eaton or a Allison World Series automatic for lazy people

- Locking rear differencial.

- Standard Exaust brake

- ISC or MB900 in the 400 hp 900 lb/ft. range.

- Optional Air brakes (at a minimal cost)

- On board air

- 100 gal. diesel tanks

Thats all ... . for now.

Make a damn truck that one can use "With a Slide- in Camper" !!!!!!!!!

I have a heavy 11'-3" slide in camper on my 05. There is too much mis-information about slide in campers.

How about a fiberglass tilt hood and optional air ride suspension from the factory like the Chevy/GMC topkicks (dare I say). And don't restrict this to the 4500/5500s either, offer it on the 3500s as well.

+Cover for the front cooling fins. They get dented easily if someone leans aginst them.

+I love the lighted side mirrors of the competetion. Make those.

+Speaking of lights. Make LED lights all around instead of the "old kind"

To be able to use the engine as a true diesel generator with 110V (or 220) plugs in the bed. That way you could plug your rv in with the truck motor running and have electric power.
