I also hope that DC is smart enough to put the Cummins v8 in the 1500. I don't need my truck's capacity since I'm not farming anymore but I won't get rid of it without having a viable alternative (ie, it must be a diesel), and a 1500 with a v8 diesel would work just fine for me.

Even though I don't think they will, I wouldn't necessarily mind having a Mercedes engine in the Ram. I bought a Dodge because I like the truck; the fact that it has a Cummins in it was just a bonus and played a very small role in my decision. I cared more that it was an I6 because I do like them better than v8s but if all the trucks had v8s in them, then I would pick which truck I liked best, regardless of the name on the badge. IMO, those of you who say that if Dodge went to Mercedes or if they put a v8 in it instead of the I6 would go buy a Ford, to you I say, please go buy a Ford.

Well i would just like to add that im running the mbe4000 in the freightliner and so far so good. All i will say is the power is there.

i guess its time to start hunting down that 12V block and start building my own, i always wanted the 12V engine but could not find one for sale. In the future if they go to a V8 which i doubt, that would be ignorant on their part, I will stick with my 24V til she dies, then go in search of another.

Was traveling thru Colo Mon and Tue and stopped in a small town called Silverthorne at the jct of I-70 and Colo 9. In the hotel parking lot where we stayed there were 8 dually rams with 06 headlights and no badging whatsoever. Some Cab and Chassis, Some with Flat Beds and some with regular truck beds. Some pulling Goose necks and others towing bumper pull stock type trailers but with no stock inside. But by the looks of the tires they were LOADED. All had 100gal aux. tanks in the back. The inside looked more like a aircraft cockpit than a truck with all kinds of monitoring equip. Also had a couple chase vans full of stuff. And a tour bus full of peeps. All had MI plates stating "Manufacturer" DC had some sort of convention at the hotel and had one of the Meeting rooms reserved.

In the morning they were all out there with hoods up and peeps wandering around everywhere. I wondered over and started up a conversation with a guy and when I tried to get closer to see, it was pretty obviouse I was not going to be allowed close enouph to see what was under the open hoods????

By the way, the 06 headlights are growing on me!!!! Might need to trade up!

To respond to Tee's reply I have also seen those same trucks around S. E. Michigan area. The ones I saw are white regular cabs. According to my neighbor who is a mechanic/ driver at the proving grounds he said that they have a couple Ford 450-550 SD's and midsize chevys they are comparing them to. So it does indeed sound like they are going to release a midsize HD Dodge truck.

I bought the Cummins

When I bought the Dodge, I bought the CTD engine, as it has been an industrial application for years.

If I had to pick trucks, it would have been Ford. Having been in the construction ind. for several years, they outlast all other brands with ease from what I've seen personally.

The Dodge truck has grown on me, but if Ford had the CTD in it, I'd have an F-350 in my driveway right now.

I couldn't agree more. :D

Sorry if i seem to be picking on anyone but i dont mean to. just tired of reading messages about how ford own cummins. I know in my area most of the international dealerships have the cummins sign next to the international sign

Along with being sick of hearing "Ford owns Cummins" (I'm sure Klenger was joking as he is quite up to date with things... check his website, it's great), I'm sick of hearing that garbage about "I bought a Cummins... too bad it came wrapped in a Dodge". If the rest of the truck is really that big of a piece of garbage, than is it worth it? I too am in the construction trades, and have seen all three brands with the snot pounded out of them, they are all good trucks with good and bad points. Believe it or not, but one of our F-350's (03)had to have some new ball joints and tie rod ends... musta been a lemon since they are so much better than the Dodges. Nonsense  . I'm done, flame suit on.

Ok well if you pay 40k for a motor then stupidity has won you over. I have had 3 dodges. By far the best trucks in the fun division that i have ever driven. My first was a 97 Dakota5. 2L 4x4. That truck had the snot beat out of it. Second was an 03 2500 with the hemi. Quick truck but lacked towing power. I am more interested with pulling not racing. Now i have the 05 ctd and boy im happier than ever. Great mileage. Awesome power and a comfortable reliable rig. No need for a furd or cheby in my parking space.

As far as MB goes i would gladly have a nice big mercedes truck engine under the hood of my next truck. Diesel started in germany and have been greatly improved on by the germans before they are improved on in the US. Where do you think all this smog crap for diesels are coming from? Europes fuel and emmisions per car is far less than the US. Europe is the head locale for tree huggers

F-250

Bert, I was issued a 1997 F-250 by the last company I worked for in the San Francisco bay area.

I drove that truck well beyond 200,000 miles, no trans oil fluid change, rear end oil change, and always ran it overloaded, put cheap ***** gas in it, drove it like a 4X4 in mud, rocks and towed loads that would make my CTD grin. .

That Ford started EVERY day and never missed a beat.

I have had Chevys puke tie rod ends, ball joints etc. And when I read the TDR, I keep seeing post of guys with 2005 Dodges pukeing U-joints etc etc. ( Lucky thus far, I have had no major mechanical go wrong)

And I've had my share of oil leaks from my 05 Dodge with less then 30,000 miles. ( By the way, the F-250 I had never left a drop of oil in my driveway )

The point of my post was just that, I bought the engine, not the truck. But I do like the truck.

By the way, I have owned 3 of these Dodge CTD's. I liked them all, but again.

PS: I know Ford does not own Cummins. But they use them in their larger trucks.

DocRhoads,

For a new member you seem to be very quick on the FLAME!! Member klenger is well respected on this forum and is well aware that Ford doesn't own Cummins. His post was just a joke.

Klenger owns Cummins!!!!!!!!! :-laf

I think you'll find that on this board, the words "Ford owns Cummins" is used as many times as a joke as it is in a serious question. Lighten up a little, and watch out for Gene because if that one got to you Gene certainly will before too long. :-laf

Flamed!!!!

I was a bit surprised to be called stupid by a (1) post fella,"KDillard" as I've been in TDR (5) years now. I don't get involved in flaming posts.

I guess I'll keep my thoughts to myself!! LOL :--)
