excuse me---------------where do I go to have a discussion on FCAs and code symtoms?<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message -->

Probably start a new thread, or use the search function first to see what's already been discussed. Welcome to TDR!

WOW with 17k and half the tread gone it looks like your only going to get about 35k out of them. I was hoping for a lot more than that. I think they have some kind of a mileage warranty--maybe 60k??? don't remember exactly I'll have to review my paperwork.
Jay

Pretty sure that there is NO mileage guarantee on the LTX/AT2--but please DO let me know if I am wrong. The Toyo Open Country AT DOES have a mileage guarntee, but NOT the MT. I do live down 1 mile of rocked driveway, and my truck does weigh in at 8200# with the camper shell. I have NEVER gotten more then 20K on any of my other tires and trucks where I live. I too would LOVE to get more, but do not know if that is possible.

We should probably start using one of the LYX/AT2 threads to discuss them and mileage so that we don't hijack this thread. Here is one that is not too old--

Pretty amazing, isn't it??Now I can't wait to put on a set of Bilstein 5100's and then eventually, the Carli Basic Suspension upgrade for our trucks, and then a pair of Carli Long Travel Air Bags for keeping level when I travel loaded or towing.

Just curious, which Carli system did you put on your truck??

Carli's Basic kit which included spring kit,adj endlinks,adjustable trac bar,air adjustable steering shock damper kit,Bilstein 5100's.

I am pretty fortunate to be relatively close to the Carli shop. I have had the opportunity to drive most of their systems. The starter system does have an impressive ride. I drove the 2. 65 Bilstein system last week and was blown away by how good the street manners were after seeing all the airtime the system can handle as well as running behind it during the B1k pre-running we did

Yeah. that's about what I paid from my local garage; So far I have 17,000 on them and it looks like I got about half the tread left. They DO drive and handle EXTREMELY well on dry, wet AND snow.

I also have the AT2's 285s, and have 50,000 miles so far. All highway and i rotate them every 7,500. Have about 25,000 to 30,000 left. (guessing)

My truck has 120,000 miles and it has just started wandering around on the highway. From reading this thread it sounds like i need to replace the steering box and grab a stabilizer. Is this correct?

Have someone whip the steering wheel back and forth while you are underneath watching and feeling for where the play is

Well, THAT sure is NICE;Oo. Oo. 4x2 or 4x4??? Do you know a ballpark # for your unloaded scale weight?? Just trying to figure out how much of my wear is due to higher weight OR rough roads... . :mad:

4X4 aS FOR THE WEIGHT IM NOT SURE. i HAVE AROUND 200 pounds over stock weight with my tools. Probably around 7,500?

Well, I'm only just a little heavier then you at 8200#, so I guess the difference in wear mostly must be due to the evil condition of the roads which i drive on around here. OH WELL. :{

So as not to hijack this thread, I'll keep posting/checking the mileage of the LTX/AT2 here--

SShafranko,do you have oversized tires,if so some of the improvements done to the frontend help alot for steering wandering. If you plan on keeping the stock tread width on the highway doing these change's will help. But running oversize tire's with a front axled truck cause's alot of the problem. The real way to check for pitman shaft play is to remove the steering box and do a torque runout while in a vase. There is a adjustment that can be made while it is out of the truck. If you decide to replace it,find one who are modifiy them to make them stronger then the original S-box design. The tire issue of Michelin after talking with them yesterday was that the rep felt since I was at 3195@80psi per tire currently, the D-rated version would be ok,just adhere to the recommended tire pressure's on the door sticker.

As an update, I ordered the below parts from Mopar Parts for Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep: MoparPartsAmerica.

$132. 25 Steering kit--52122362AE
$96. 83 Steering stabilizer--52122370AA<O:p</O:p
$53. 07 Pitman Arm--68939930AA<O:p</O:p
$30 shipping<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

All the numbers pulled up in the main search selecting Dodge but not a year.

I added:

$550 Carli uppers<O:p</O:p
$160 lowers (their heavy duty blue box, look like Moogs)

Took all that to the front end shop, they quoted $450 for replacing everything, with alignment. I said go ahead.

Here is the unexpected part, they could not get the front hub bearings loose or off. They wanted to replace them. Their claim was they would tear stuff up getting them off. I was left with little choice, as I was traveling and could not come look.

$550 for 2 hub bearings.

The entire job was just over $2000. 00. At $1500 I was ok with upgrading, if I had known it would be over 2K I probably would not have done it now and might not have used the Carli's.

I will say this, the new tie rod stuff is very heavy duty compared to the old. This is really the only repair I have made in 80K miles so I need to put it in perspective. It's all stuff that should last though.

An extended warranty would have covered some of this but I would not have gotten the Carli greasable uppers. Without those I am not sure this same issue does not happen again even with the new steering assembly. You guys decide.

I am going to take the front tires and put them on the outside of the rear end. I will try to run them for a while and avoid buying 2 new tires.

that is too bad they forced you into getting the hubs.

Many shops are charging in the $500 range to replace Ball joints that makes the Carli joint that much more attractive... ... ... ... pay labor only once ;)
