Just wanting to know. Is 1,200 really o. k. all day.

I just put on a new turbo and when I am towing if I am not working it hard I am around 1,000 on the highway and 1,100-1,200 in the hills.

Are these temps really o. k. to run at all day long?

TIA,

Joe

Should be no problem at all, my SPS 62/14 does pretty much the same, depending where thre TST box is set at. Once it comes up on boost, temps drop unless I 'm really working it. :)

Have you ever towed with a Smarty? I have been told the TST works better and runs cooler.

When I pulled mt. hood the other day I was driving by egt's, keeping them right at 1,250-1,300. I was on Level 5 which is 90HP + timing.

Haven't towed with a Smarty ... yet. I also have the TST stacked with an EZ box, which is set to level 2 at all times, if this helps.

One of the most over look area in modding is oil cooling,If your running 1200 constant you can bet your Post Turbo oil temp is 500 Plus... running temps with your mods 280/300. . Plus . $350. 00 for Plate & fin cooler with all the hose and hardware... oil coolers with Top Quality hoses and hardware will live for as long as the Truck.

So maybe an oil temp gauge would be in order.

Remember, 1200 degrees is an average temperature. You could have a cylinder or two significantly above the mark. I would not do it.

My truck tow's best using the wild program on level #3. I started out on my last trip on moderate #3 and the egt's would peg the gauge at 1500. The first overnight stop I loaded the wild program #3. The next day I couldn't get the egt's over 1300, cruising at 70 plus the temps would average about 850.

I pull a 13k fifth wheel camper. My truck doesn't like the other softwares when towing for some reason. Hope this helps.

1,000* should be o. k. I would think.

I may try the Wild. I am running a larger then stock turbo which I think is giving me higher cruising temps but cooler max temps. #@$%!

The only time I had to down shift to 5th gear was on a 7% grade that was about 5 miles long. That was the only time the temps got to 1350. Other than that the hills dont slow you down much at all.

The only thing I had to be careful with, was at about 2100 to 2200 rpm in 5th or 6th gear, if I gave it to much fuel to fast the stock clutch would slip.

I also gained about . 5 mpg on the wild program, hand calc'd.

My 35" tires get my gear ratio to screwed up to tow in 6th unless I am 65+ on almost flat ground.

Oh yeah and in 6th around 12-15 pounds of boost on a slight hill I get turbo surge.
