Pulled the Trans out

I ran some quarter times on the way home from work today. I did three runs, but screwed the last one up pretty bad, so I threw it out. I didn't launch as well as I think I could have, so I'll try more at a later date. Here are the two runs that I made.

17. 93 @ 83. 4 mph

Using elapsed time - 240 hp / Using MPH - 316. 9 hp

17. 84 @ 78 mph

Using elapsed time - 243. 6 hp / Using MPH - 259. 2 hp

Truck weight - 7000 lbs.

Someone want to do the math to verify this. I used both formulas in the current issue of the TDR, page 36. Anybody care to elaborate on the discrepancy in engine output between the two runs while the rear wheel HP seems to be pretty consistent. I want to try this again when the weather cools off and after an oil change to see if there is a difference. I also had the fan off.

John, I have an excel spread sheet that I plug the weight, time and mph into to get the hp results. Your numbers are on the money. The difference between the et and mph hp numbers, as I see it, is because your truck is probably a little doggy of the line but then comes on to turn in a good mph number. The slow start eats up time, which makes that hp calculation lower.

Thanks. I think I can launch better, plus it is very hot here right now. Mid 90's with humidity around 63 percent. I think I got more in the truck than is indicated, but I am happy because it pulls my trailer the way I want it to, now

I think your second run looks right but the first run mph seems to be off. I'm running 16. 3 in the quarter and 83. 5 mph. Nearly a 18 second run and 83. 4 mph just don't sound right unless your coming off the line really really slow. I would go to a track and compare those times with your G-tech. Gives you a good excuse to have more fun! :D

I launched slow. Normally I'll rev up to about 2200 and let it go, but pushing the button on the G-Tech and then trying to get up to 2200 rpm before the GO appears is to short of a time. Once I got going, I got through the gears pretty good. I'm going to see if I can take it to a track and get timed. Like you said, just another excuse to have fun. I think my clutch may be holding me back a bit.

John,

Steve is right. I sometimes sit with GO flashing for several seconds (waiting for a break in traffic). It'll work just fine when you take off.
