Competition dual rear wheels vs single rear wheels on a dyno?

Dont everyone laugh too hard at my times. I really never drag raced my old heavy truck until tonight.

My truck weighed in at a healthy 8775lbs. She is tad fat for drag racing but... .

first time 2wheel drive dumped clutch at 3000 rpm at spun the rears to the tune of 10. 67=YUK.

Second time 2wheel drive I was more conservative at the light and went a 10. 54=YUK again.

Third time I was in 4wheel drive to help control the wheel spin and did a pretty harsh launch and went a 9. 86

Fourth time was a 4 wheel drive at easier out of the box and went a 9. 67.

Water temps were getting a little warm and I let her cool down a bit.

Went back in 4wheel drive at went a 9. 274 at about 76 MPH.

The Southbend held tight as he!! even with a very hard 3500RPM launch in 4 wheel drive.

Im learning to chill a bit on the line and to shift earlier. I was shifting at about 3800-3900 rpm one the slower runs and started shifting around 3200-3400 and the times got better.

I need to work out my reaction times too. My best R?T was a lousy 1. 12 something. You dont want to know the worst.

Shes got a high 8 in her I know... I just need to learn how to drive it. DA me did look down at the tach once and saw I was past the red 4000 rpm OOOPPPS! Gov springs can get you into trouble fast

:D

Don~

edit- I wanted to add that I followed another guy from Ft Worth tonight to the track. He had a 2001 5 speed truck with BD stage 2 injectors and some kinda poweredge box on his dash with a stock turbo. Turned on what he called 5 his best time was about a 9. 70. He had a weight of about 6800 lbs.

He had 3. 54 gears I have 4. 10's. How much power do you guys think he makes with his truck? I have little experince with the 24 valve stuff. Oh, he was hooked up to his pump wire with this thingee on the dash.

If he has a 1900 pound advantage on me I wondered how much power he had if I was able to drive around him with a 9. 27.

this drag racing stuff is too cool. People were freakin out on the times as I drove around some rice rockets.

Careful now... . you'll start to like it..... and love it ;) And people really freak out when you drive around Mustangs and Camaros :D

There is no way I will ever make a 8. 4 pass with my 5 speed truck.

Thats sounds really fast. With some juice on your ride... . oh boy.

I need reaction time help bad and my dern truck needs to go on a diet.

Don~

I went to Kennedale near Mansfield. West of Big D.

10 bucks to run all night.

don't say that!

DON!!!! Come on, I'm running a 5 speed. I can't locate any of last years time slips to give you an 1/8th mile. Probably like Kat's since we are so close in e. t. 's.

But I am abandoning the manual guys, but before I do I will pay my respects. ;)

5-speeds get expensive!

is this a hint... of things to come?

were loosing another one to the slushbox crowd :D

Hey Jim,

Thanks Bro. Your not the first person to say that. ;)

Guess I have few friends anyway. Coming to Dallas in March?

Todd T,

slush boxes are no fun to me on the street. I love being able to shift gears and toy around with my 5 speed. Yeah, if I was a hardcore drag racer I would prolly go auto or maybe a LEnco:D

After I move some of these parasites (kids) outta the house maybe I can build me Cummins powered Dakota or something.

:D

S and J,

Man if you are running those kinda 1/8 mile times with your truck now... you are gonna kill anything on the track with an auto.

Wish I had some more bucks to get into this more.

slusher

Todd-Yea, I'm heading for the slushbox. But my tribute to manuals will be to dyno before and after so I can show those slushers that manuals rule. Stand by for a thread with a big description of the "procedure"

Keith, it's nice to see the drag racing bug biting someone else hard! You think Joe D will let you strap your truck on his Airstream and head on out to Muncie? It'd be nice to meet you guys.

Don, no need to worry about launching. I managed to average . 521 lights during last year's season. I did accomplish one perfect light. Steve St. Laurent also was solid with better than . 600 launches. I usually left when the second light darkened.

Good to have you back in form Brother.

I'll second that.

You went racing with out me..... you sorry dog!!! Let me know when you plan on going again, ... . I've been dying to burn one bald tire:D . Is there usually a good turn out? Do they run every weekend?

he is long gone, he is getting old and too lazy/slow to shift. :D :p

he has lost the nerve and has to keep both hands on the wheel.

Every Thursday night. 10 bucks to run as many times as you want to.

Its cool. Im scared to rag too hard on my rig and break something. I need to lean on her for my job in Houston in about 10 days. I will be down that way around the first of March.

Don~

time to eat crow

yep i had to poke to fun at Eric.

over the weekend i traded my truck for a new project. guess what? its an AUTO.

my wife put her foot down or was it up something!!$#@ and told me if i was going to spend all this time and money on the new truck it had to have an auto or no deal.

I'm not sure, but i'm waiting for an ambush

I bet she thinks she's gonna drive it!! after i'm done :D

well, who am i kidding, we all know she will :D
