Yep, the Amish around IN perform all sorts of skilled trade work in small shops. Their overhead costs and labor rates are low and their attention to detail very high.
Yep... I would trust a bench rebuilt starter way more than a brand new one that replaced a 2 year old one that failed...
In this day and age, a friggin starter motor should last 10 years or better...
Let me just say I have yet to replace a 3rd gen much less a 4th gen starter, and I work on them everyday. They are very reliable and much more durable than you think.Yep... I would trust a bench rebuilt starter way more than a brand new one that replaced a 2 year old one that failed...

From what I can see all the 94 up diesel starters are 2,7 kw (3. 6hp)
from the 2007 fsm

Mike, the 6. 7 looks like a direct drive?

Did a little digging last night before hitting the sheets,
5. 9 Starters are 2. 7kw as Bob has stated. The 6. 7 starters are 3. 0kw according to Delco Remy. They also have an "s" terminal on them now.

New and Reman are available.

Only Reman is available.

Very likely scenario. There are so many causes for a no crank, with all the electronics now.I wonder if the OP actually needed a starter or if it was a mis-diagnosis? Was it actually changed and fixed the problem or still in the "I think" stage? There was not much info in the orginal post and no follow up post... .

Good questions. I've never had a starter failure in almost 700k miles. I don't remember reading of a starter failure here in TDR either.
